For your first graded mini-assignment in RHET, you will write a brief rhetorical analysis of a billboard ad (minimum 250 words).
- Include:
- Your details in the top left corner: name, ID#, Class, Professor name, due date.
- Title – centered, below your details.
- Image of chosen billboard ad.
- Mini-analysis:
- Introduction: Introduce the rhetorical situation (author, intended audience, message) and end with thesis statement
- Body: Analyze effectiveness of rhetorical appeals used – ethos, logos, pathos (with examples)
- Conclusion: Sum up and comment on how effective this ad is and why
- Works Cited – properly cite your billboard ad image on a new, titled page.
- Specs: Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced, 1 inch margins.

This assignment is worth 5% of your final grade. Your paper will be graded based on the following criteria:
- Content: paper includes all components detailed above, with focus on your ability to identify and analyze the effectiveness of the rhetorical appeals used. Must include a clear and focused thesis statement.
- Writing quality: well-organized, coherent writing, with use of appropriate academic language to explain your ideas. It should be carefully proofread to ensure there are no grammatical, spelling or punctuation errors.
- MLA style: paper follows MLA formatting, including correctly cited reference in a Works Cited page.
