Extra Credit Assignments

Campus Writing for Extra Credit:

I will offer extra credit assignments at different points during the semester. Each assignment will be related to an event that you will need to attend on campus and then write a brief reflection on. These assignments are thus 'Campus Writing' assignments.

Each extra credit assignment will be worth 1 or 2% that can be potentially added to your final grade. Total extra credit added cannot exceed 5%.

Extra Credit Assignment 1: Career Day

Attend career day and find out more about at least two careers. Ask questions to find out more about the job -- what it entails, qualifications required, types of opportunities available in Egypt or abroad, work hours, how satisfying this job is to the presenter and why, etc. Take notes. Take a selfie in front of the booth with the person you ask questions to.

Write a 250 word reflection paper on your experience with Career Day. Include the following:

• Choosing a career: How did you or will you go about deciding on a career? What are the factors you think are most important to consider? What types of jobs are you interested in? Why?
• 2 selfies (one with each career representative you talked to)
• Investigation: Information on the two jobs you found out about and which of the two jobs are you more interested in and why?
• Learning from the experience: What you have learned from attending Career Day -- how useful is this event and why?

Extra Credit Assignment 2: International Day

Attend International Day and participate in events, try different types of food, visit different booths. Interview someone from a booth to find out more about their country -- customs, culture, language, religion, famous places, famous people, politics, food, etc. Take notes. Take a selfie with the person you interview. Take other photos too.

Write a 250 word reflection paper on your experience with International Day. Include the following:

• Importance: Why is it important to find out about different cultures and to interact with people from diverse countries? What do you think is the purpose of International Day?
• Country focus: Information on the country you found out about and what was most interesting about this country.
• Selfie and photos (selfie with person you interviewed)
• Learning from the experience: What you have learned from attending International Day -- how did you feel during the event and how useful is this event and why?
