Third Grade

In this section there are many links, rubrics and expectations for third graders in the Lakeland Hills library. This page will help you be up on helps and expectations before, during or after assignments are made.

Library skills for third grade are as follows:

Power Standard

Grade 3

Pursue:Students read, view, and listen to different materials for a variety of purposes.

  • I can speak, write, or share in other ways about series or genres of books that I like.

Investigate and Think Critically:Students research, manage and evaluate information and solve problems using digital tools and resources.

  • I use the online library catalog and call numbers to find materials in the library; I use alphabetical and decimal organization.
  • I can select keywords to search for information.
  • I can use an index to find information within a source.

Innovate:Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge and develop innovative products and processes

  • I create work responding to stories, sharing ideas, and/or presenting simple research.

Practice Digital Citizenship:Students demonstrate a clear understanding of technology systems and operations and practice safe, legal and ethical behavior.

  • I make safe and responsible choices for sharing information and maintaining privacy.

Science is used as a year long study while students attend the library.

Washington State has adopted the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These standards are what we will be melding with our library skills.


Students will complete journal writing, scientific inquiry experiments, scientific readings as well as learn dictionary skills, thesarus skills, Dewey library system, classic literature and much more.
