APPLICATION INFORMATION: Below are the scholarships listed that are due for this month. If the entry is gray, then the current year scholarship has not yet arrived.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MAY
Jeff Austin, Sr., Memorial Scholarship
Charlie Hooser Memorial Scholarship
Deadline: May 1
First State Bank offers a scholarship yearly to children of First State Bank customers or graduating seniors who are First State Bank customers to aid in college education at Trinity Valley Community College or Navarro College. This scholarship will be in the amount of $1,200. The recipient will receive $1,200.00 in payments of $600.00 per fall and spring semester for one year of college.
The requirements of this scholarship are:
Applications are due by Thursday, May 1 st no later than 4:00pm. Information may be obtained through the school counselor. The recipients will be notified no later than June 1 st and the funds will be distributed upon proof of payment to Trinity Valley Community College or Navarro College and the student’s class schedule. Subsequent distributions will require proof of eligibility (i.e. grades and proof of credit hours) and a copy of the payment receipt.
To apply, an applicant must be a graduating high school senior and either a customer or child of a customer of First State Bank or one who resides year-round within the customer’s residence and is shown as a dependent on the customer’s income tax return.
The customer must be associated with First State Bank for no less than three years as of August 1 st of the year the application is made.
The applicant must submit an application, a personal essay over one of the topics listed, two letters of recommendation, a copy of their most recent high school transcript, and signature of the High School Counselor and/or School Administrator.
The recipient must be a full-time student carrying at least 12 semester hours and maintain a GPA of 2.50 or above in order to qualify for payment of the next semester’s scholarship. The recipient must submit, to First State Bank, a copy of their grades prior to the spring semester. In the event a student does not qualify for the following semester’s distribution due to grades or credit hours, they will be allowed to submit their required paperwork for the following semester only if all qualifications are met.
If the customer is no longer associated with First State Bank, the scholarship will become void at the end of that semester. Forfeited scholarships are non-transferable.
Scholarship funding will be issued to the recipient once proper documentation from Trinity Valley Community College or Navarro College has been provided. Fund usage is limited to tuition, fees, books, supplies, dormitory, and school meal plans.

Brower Youth Award for Environmental Leadership.
This scholarship is from the Earth Island Institute. Students ages 13-22 who have been youth environmental change leaders are encouraged to apply. Students from the US, Mexico, Canada, and Caribbean countries are eligible to apply. Awards of up to $3000 plus a trip to California. Deadline May 20th.
