The Grade 8 Enhanced Curriculum focuses on Biology integrated with the other fields of sciences (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Integrated Science, etc.), in line with the DepEd MATATAG curriculum. This course explores the diverse forms and life processes of unicellular and multicellular organisms through biological themes anchored to the characteristics of life as guideposts. This approach simplifies and integrates the varied and complicated web of biological information into a more unified and meaningful pattern of study. By highlighting the interconnectedness of living systems, the program puts an emphasis on Green Education, fostering environmental awareness, sustainability, and care for all forms of life. The lessons will equip the students with biological knowledge, skills, and attitudes to better understand the role of biology in their lives. These will enable them to properly address environmental situations that confront them daily. The ultimate goal of this course is to instill the value of the dignity of the human person and their role as stewards of God’s creation.
At the end of the course, the students are expected to:
explain the connections among the different biological processes (competence);
demonstrate scientific skills and right attitudes (competence and conscience);
relate scientific knowledge with the ability to make a moral stand on bioethical issues and social impacts of biotechnology (competence, compassion, and Christ-centeredness);
respond to God’s call to preserve and sustain life and its environment (competence, commitment, compassion, Christ-centeredness, conscience);
describe the integration of biology with the other fields of sciences (Integrated Science, Chemistry, Physics) (competence);
cultivate skills that enable learners to assess specific societal problems aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
apply the methods of science on the development of a research project proposal directed to solving societal and environmental issues (competence,compassion, and commitment); and
demonstrate the proper laboratory skills necessary in scientific experimentation (commitment, competence)
