Thank you for your message. The current situation in Ukraine is terrible. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you. First of all, we would like to give you the following general information:

Ukrainian nationals can stay legally in Switzerland for 90 days. No biometric passport is required for entry. We recommend that you immediately apply for S status at a federal asylum center (https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/de/home/asyl/asylverfahren/asylregionen-baz.html). If you already have accommodation in Switzerland, the easiest way is to register online: Online application (https://www.sem.admin.ch/dam/sem/de/data/asyl/gesuch-schutzstatus-s.pdf.download.pdf/gesuch-schutzstatus-s-d.pdf) and send this directly to the SEM via anmeldung_ukraine@sem.admin.ch

Status S applies to all Ukrainian citizens who lived in Ukraine before February 24, 2022 as well as to everyone who had a valid residence permit in Ukraine or recognized protection status. If you need help registering, you can use our chatbot: www.asylex.ch/ukraine. 

You can also apply in person at a Federal Asylum Camp (Bundesasylzentrum BAZ). After a short procedure at the Federal Asylum Center, which can last up to 3 days or more, you will receive a residence and work permit for Switzerland that is valid for one year. The Swiss authorities provide medical care, housing and social support should you need it. You can also apply for family reunification. If you have children, they can go to school immediately. You can travel to any country with your S permit. The permit is issued for one year at a time and can be extended. For more information, see this link: www.asylex.ch/ukraine

Please also note that as soon as you apply for S status in Switzerland, Switzerland is responsible for you. It is intended that the European country where you make your first application for protection is responsible for you. If you then seek protection in another European country, that other country will most likely bring you back to Switzerland. If you actually want to live in another European country, we recommend that you first seek protection there.

If you fear personal persecution by the Ukrainian authorities, it would be possible to apply for asylum in Switzerland. We would not currently recommend this step because if you apply for asylum in Switzerland, you would have to stay in the asylum camp and hand in your passport and money. In addition, it is then not possible to submit another application in another EU country, since only Switzerland is then responsible for you.

Der Status S gilt für alle ukrainischen Staatsbürger, welche vor dem 24. Sie können auch persönlich in einem Bundesasylzentrum vorsprechen, um Ihr Gesuch um einen S Status zu stellen. Wenn Sie Kinder haben, können diese sofort zur Schule gehen. Sie dürfen mit Ihrem S-Ausweis in jedes Land reisen. Die Bewilligung wird jeweils für ein Jahr ausgestellt und kann verlängert werden. Bitte beachten Sie auch, dass sobald Sie einen S-Status in der Schweiz beantragen, die Schweiz für Sie zuständig ist. Es ist vorgesehen, dass das europäische Land, in dem Sie Ihren ersten Schutz-Antrag stellen für Sie verantwortlich ist. Wenn Sie danach in einem anderen europäischen Land um Schutz ersuchen, wird dieses andere Land Sie höchstwahrscheinlich in die Schweiz zurückbringen. Wenn Sie eigentlich in einem anderen europäischen Land leben möchten, empfehlen wir Ihnen, zunächst dort um Schutz zu ersuchen.

Wenn Sie eine persönliche Verfolgung durch die ukrainischen Behörden befürchten, wäre es möglich, in der Schweiz Asyl zu beantragen. Wir würden diesen Schritt derzeit nicht empfehlen, denn wenn Sie in der Schweiz Asyl beantragen, müssten Sie im Asylcamp bleiben, Ihren Pass und Ihr Geld abgeben. Ausserdem ist es dann nicht möglich, in einem anderen EU-Staat einen weiteren Antrag zu stellen da dann nur die Schweiz für Sie zuständig ist.

Le statut S s'applique à tous les citoyens ukrainiens qui vivaient en Ukraine avant le 24 février 2022 ainsi qu'à tous ceux qui avaient un permis de séjour valide en Ukraine ou un statut de protection reconnu. Si vous avez besoin d'aide pour vous inscrire, vous pouvez utiliser notre chatbot : www.asylex.ch/ukraine.

Après une courte procédure au Centre fédéral d'asile (Bundesasylzentrum BAZ), qui peut durer jusqu'à 3 jours ou plus, vous recevrez un permis de séjour et de travail pour la Suisse valable un an. Les autorités suisses fournissent des soins médicaux, un logement et une aide sociale si vous en avez besoin. Vous pouvez également demander le regroupement familial. Si vous avez des enfants, ils peuvent aller à l'école immédiatement. Vous pouvez voyager dans n'importe quel pays avec votre permis S. Veuillez également noter que dès que vous demandez le statut S en Suisse, la Suisse est responsable de vous. Il est prévu que le pays européen où vous faites votre première demande de protection soit responsable de vous. Si vous cherchez ensuite une protection dans un autre pays européen, cet autre pays vous ramènera très probablement en Suisse. Si vous souhaitez réellement vivre dans un autre pays européen, nous vous recommandons d'y chercher d'abord une protection.

Si vous craignez d'être personnellement persécuté par les autorités ukrainiennes, il serait possible de demander l'asile en Suisse. Nous ne recommandons pas actuellement cette étape car si vous demandez l'asile en Suisse, vous devrez rester dans le camp d'asile et remettre votre passeport et votre argent. De plus, il n'est alors pas possible de déposer une autre demande dans un autre pays de l'UE, car seule la Suisse est alors responsable de vous.

• Les transports en commun sont gratuits pour les personnes munies d'un permis S ou d'une carte grise.
