The VIT Inquiry process requires Provisionally Registered Teachers (PRT's) to “demonstrate the development of their knowledge and practice, and gather evidence to demonstrate they have met the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching (APST) at the Proficient teacher level.”
Through this process PRT's will:
Select a group/class of learners, assess their learning and possible affecting factors
Develop an inquiry question based on identified learning needs
It is a good idea to chat with your mentor or ASV Induction and Mentoring Officer about your Inquiry question, as it will help clarify the intent of your work and support the improvement of student outcomes
Undertake professional development in their area of inquiry
Develop and implement an action plan
Assess the impact of the inquiry on student learning
Assess the impact of the inquiry on teacher pedagogy/practice
Reflect on effectiveness of inquiry and identify future needs and next steps
Collect and record evidence of all the APST at the proficient teacher level
Meet all the compulsory requirements of VIT’s Inquiry process
Further information on the APST, the PRT Guide for the VIT Inquiry and links to resources can be found on the VIT website.
To assist PRT's in understanding the process of moving from PROVISIONAL to FULL registration, the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) host a range of FREE PRT seminars.
The seminars cover
VIT Inquiry requirements
evidence-based processes using the Inquiry process
professional obligations: such as Codes of Conduct and Ethics
links to information and resources
Teachers will be able to apply for FULL registration when they can demonstrate that:
They have taught for at least 80 days in one or more Australian or New Zealand schools / early childhood (EC) services, and
provide evidence that they have met the APST at the Proficient teacher level using VIT’s Inquiry process.

Used the most current VIT Guide and template to direct your plan
Met with your mentor about your Inquiry and have had your work proofed by them
