Maybe as an ice-breaker or warm-up, use games like pictionary, what's in the box, or hangman.
Have students create learning journals for each week of the course to help students retain information
First assignment to have anonymous peer review
Use Zoom polls, pollanywhere, kahoot, or top hat to give students polls they can answer on their browser or phone

Have you ever taught synchronously across multiple time zones before? Some things to keep in mind.
Backchannels are a way to provide a live conversation space for an instructor to view the questions and commentary of in-person and remote students and to allow a space for both audiences to communicate. Sync backchannels can be conducted via;
Zoom chat - This can include text, links and files. The transcript can be set to automatically download after every session. This will also show private communications between participants.
Google Apps - Shared Google docs, slides, sheets, and drawings can be collaboratively edited
Slack - channels specific to the topic can be used to share text, links, videos, and files
Share the stage with guest speakers and students! Have students prepare to present an article or current event for the first few minutes of class.

In Zoom remote classes or meetings, instructors can break the students out into smaller groups to work on projects or engage in discussion.
