Course Requests

Course requests are the students opportunity to select the courses they would like to enroll in. Final decisions about what courses will be offered are made based on student interest and teacher availability. While AST makes every attempt to get students into their first choice classes, we cannot guarantee course availability.

Before you fill out your request form:

  • Review the course description on the course catalog

  • HS Students - Review the graduation requirements and your credit check

  • Talk to adults you trust about your options - your parents, your teachers, your counselors, and your administrators

How to fill out the Course Request Form

Log in to Alma. Go to the “Schedule” tab, then the “Future Requests” tab. There will be a request form that reminds you of graduation requirements and let’s you put together course requests by indicating first choices and fallback choices.

Choose the “Select” Button in each gray box moving down the form.

Important Note: There is a checkbox that is marked “Eligible Only”. Some advanced courses like AP courses require a teacher recommendation before you can select the course. Unchecking the "Eligible Only" box will let you see if there is something hidden.

If you don't have a recommendation for something you would like to take, speak to the teacher of the course. The teacher can add a recommendation if they think you are ready for the course.

Make requests by pressing the green “+” sign. If you need to remove a request press the orange "x".

Use the comment box if there is something you need to explain, such as:

  • if you need to explain why you want to take a course

  • to indicate preference between courses

  • request a course you need that is not listed

When you are finished with the selections for this box press the “Save” button. Once you press “Save”, the pop-up window will close and you will see your choices on the main page. You can change your mind by pressing “Edit”.

When you have completed each section, verify that you have selected the correct number of total credits. You will not be able to submit your Selection Form until the correct number of credits is selected.

Take the time to carefully consider your Fallback Choices. If you cannot get into your first choice classes, these classes will be used next to fill your schedule.

Once you have completed the form and your advisor has confirmed your choices, you can press "submit" in the upper right corner of the form.
