After School Lessons Enrolling Now!
While student enrollment in the Ashland bands have almost tripled in the last 5 years, school budgets and staffing levels have stayed the same or decreased. Support from parents and community members who believe in the value and importance of instrumental music education is critical. Here are a few ways you can help us improve the quality of the band program for all students.
Help them find time to practice at home and remind them to enter practice times online.
Enroll them in private lessons if possible. Purchase and use makemusic.com software if possible.
Encourage them to perform their music for your family at home. Be supportive of their practicing.
Help them stay organized and remember to bring their instruments and music to school on band days.
Founded in 2010, the Ashland Music Association advocates for and provides financial and volunteer assistance to the music programs in our public schools.
Fund transportation expenses and costs for students to attend music events and competitions.
Fund audition and transportation costs for students to participate in Junior and Senior District, All-State and All-Eastern Music Festivals.
Fund teacher grants to enhance the music curriculum.
Coordinate community music performances showcasing our talented students.
Build a stronger music community among Ashland parents, teachers, students, businesses and all music lovers!
We need your help supporting the Ashland Band and Chorus programs. No task or contribution is too small!
If you have an old or unused instrument, consider donating it to the Ashland band program. It will be put to good use as a loaner or an instrument for a student who can't afford to buy their own. You will receive a tax deduction letter for your donation. Contact Brian Koning at bkoning@ashland.k12.ma.us
If you have a musical background or training, you can volunteer to assist with lessons and band rehearsals at school. Some of the bands are quite large, and having a second adult there to assist with struggling students or sections is very helpful. Contact Brian Koning at bkoning@ashland.k12.ma.us
In April 2013 students from Rivers School held an instrument donation drive and ended up donating many of the instruments to the AMS band program. The instruments were put to use right away as loaner instruments or were traded in for larger instruments needed in the bands.
Enrollment in the Ashland Middle School bands has pushed the limits of our instrument storage space.
In March 2013 Nick Paolini constructed and installed new instrument storage shelves in the AMS band room for his eagle scout project. The new shelves look great and allow us to store many more instruments than before. Big thanks to Nick and everyone else who helped out with this huge project!
Another shelving project completed for the AMS band room thanks to Seth Colson and the Eagle Scouts. Extra large shelf space for the extra large school instruments!
