What is your submission about?
My submission is about death in an apocalypse.
What do you want to showcase about your submission?
Before beginning my design, I visualized the images and feelings that would present in an apocalypse. Instantly, darkness, death, and destruction came to mind. To represent that, I chose to work on dark paper instead of white. I used a white colored pencil to mark out the most important things like skulls and ghostly silhouettes. The skulls represented death, while the messy amount of silhouettes is used to capture the magnitude and unclarity of the destruction. To further convey the damage, I added fire in the background and a crippling rose for lost hope. The image most clearly in focus is one of the skulls. Instead of using black and white, I used oil pastel to paint brighter colors near the center and the darker ones on the sides to show how the darkness is consuming the figure which not long before had been full of life.
