At Kellands, we track progress formally 3 times a year (November, February and May/June). These involve professional discussions with colleagues using using the documents below (Maths criteria, Reading and Writing progression, Writing criteria) to support your teacher judgements. Please also refer to the guidance below to support your understanding of achievement of CfE level.
If there is anything that is unclear or that you wish to clarify, please do not hesitate to ask a colleague or a member of SLT.

CfE works fluidly and children will work across aspects of each step. We would not expect any child to be solely at one step but more likely to work across aspects of 2 steps. E.g., It would be natural for a child in P3 to be working at aspects across both the first step (P2) and middle step (P3) at the same time or the middle step and final step (P4) . Teachers would report on the level the child is working most consistently at.

Each Level has 3 big steps – for example 1st Level is split into P2, P3 & P4. To help us assess progress each of these steps is split into three smaller steps F1 – 3, F4 – 6 & F5 – 7.
Use the Education Scotland benchmarks to help you assess the achievement of a level and use the Progressions to help you assess a pupil’s progress through the level.
Working with colleagues to moderate assessment is a valuable way to ensure a shared understanding of what is expected at each level.
When predicting levels remember that the expectation is that average pupil will move up the three smaller steps in a school year. For example, a pupil starting P1 working around E7 is likely to be working around E9 at the end of P1. Children develop and progress at different rates so some may only move up one small step and others three or more.
The Summary of Achievement (Pupil Report) is issued to parents twice a year in November and May. Tracking information should be completed in November, February, and June.
For those children sitting at AP in the above Tracking to Reporting Guidance, it is recommended that this additional tracker is used (please expand/download). This will give a clearer picture on how these pupils are progressing across the curriculum. You do not have to complete all Es and Os / milestones but it is a useful tool for linking to IEP target areas or the main areas of the curriculum that the child is focussing on.
At Kellands, the wellbeing of our children is central to our vision, mission and values. On a day-to-day basis all staff are expected to adopt 'deliberate botheredness' (Dix, 2017). Being relentlessly bothered is characterised by establishing rapport, building emotional currency and positive relationships. Please refer to the six principles of Nurture and the Zones of Regulation to help facilitate a safe learning environment where all feelings are accepted and children know they have a voice, and tools/strategies/people they can rely on.
In addition, in P1 to P3 staff should use the SHANARRI tracker and resources below. Please follow the step-by-step guide to help with this. In P4 to P7, all pupils will be surveyed in Term 3. SLT will advise when these surveys should be completed by at the start of the term.
Please see/download the Step-by-step guidance on how to use the SHANARRI tracker above. All resources required for this are on the Googledrive here.
In Term 3 each year we conduct a pupil survey with our P4 to P7 pupils. The questions are based around SHANARRI and our school values and are designed to give SLT an insight into pupils attitudes towards themselves as learners and their attitudes to school. Any concerns arising from the survey are followed up by SLT in a timely and supportive manner.
