SLT wanted to bring to your attention the fantastic Outreach service that is available to us. We have had some real great wins with the help of Outreach. In recent Accelerated Reader assessments in P5, some of the improvements in reading age for children undergoing outreach through the Learning unit were really encouraging.
From November 2023 to March 2024, children have achieved the following gains in reading age (P5 are generally age 10)
Child A 7.03 years to 9.2 years
Child B 9.06 years to 10.00
Child C 7.00 years to 7.9
Child D 8.03 years to 9.11
We wanted to bring this to your attention because if you have children who are showing persistent literacy difficulties that are not being met/impacted by the universal support (word bank, widgets, multiplication squares, alphabet strips etc) or specialist (Nessy, toe by toe, Chromebook) provision in your class then any class teacher at Kellands is able to complete an outreach referral. Ideally children would be P4 and upwards as prior to this you will be still assessing the interventions you are using. P7 T3 and beyond would be too late as the transition activities ramp up.
If you have a child in mind, you can see sample and historical referrals are available for reference which will hopefully make any application easier and less time consuming for already busy teachers. You can also speak to Aileen Strachan, Sarah Andrew or any member of SLT for advice.
