This page will guide you through what is expected in our twice yearly Student Reports. It is important to note that the Curriculum for Excellence works fluidly, and learning is not linear. The child will develop at their own pace, but the report describes the child’s progress against the expected national level.
Use the drop-down menus to select the Curriculum for Excellence level the child is working at (E: Early / 1: First / 2: Second)
Use the drop-down menus to select the Progress at the selected level expected in [insert your year group]. Is the child:
• Consistently achieving beyond the expected level
• Consistently achieving at the expected level
• Sometimes achieving at the expected level
• Not yet achieving at the expected level
• Making appropriate progress at own level
Tick the appropriate box in relation to the statement on the left to give a snapshot of the child’s engagement with our Kellands Values and their Personal, Social and Emotional development.
The Teacher Comment section should be approximately 100 – 150 words and should include information regarding the child’s progress in literacy, numeracy as well as a general comment in relation to the child’s wellbeing and contribution to school life.
Be Honest
It’s important to be honest in the report – but there should be a mix of positive and ways to improve. It’s also very important not to say something that you haven’t already mentioned to the child’s parents – this shouldn’t be the first time they hear about something.
Be Concise
Don’t write too much – keep it to the point.
The Sandwich Approach
Start with the positive points – some areas of improvement and end on a positive note.
To keep these questions in mind:
Will a parent reading this understand clearly how their child is doing in your class?
Will a parent reading this understand their child has areas of strength?
Will a parent reading this know what is being done to address any areas of concern? (This might also include ways the child can take some responsibility for their improvement and/or ways the family can support.)
Will a parent reading this recognise that their child is a valued member of our Kellands family?
