Early Learning & Support Policy (Preschool)
At Arundel Christian School, we understand that each child develops at their own pace—and we believe that preschool is a time of discovery, growth, and learning. While developmental differences are normal in early childhood, we also recognize the importance of identifying early signs of learning delays or challenges to best support a child’s success.
Our Partnership with Parents
We view our relationship with parents as a partnership. As part of that partnership, it is the parent's responsibility to inform the school of any known developmental delays, diagnoses, or learning concerns. If your child has been evaluated by a pediatrician, specialist, or therapist, we ask that you share any relevant information with us before the school year begins or as soon as it becomes available.
If a concern arises during the school year based on classroom observation or developmental milestones, the Preschool Director will reach out to you directly to discuss the concern. We will always approach these conversations with sensitivity, grace, and a shared goal of helping your child thrive.
Next Steps for Support
If it is recommended that your child be evaluated for possible delays or developmental needs, it is the parent’s responsibility to:
Seek support from your child’s pediatrician or a licensed specialist (e.g., speech therapist, occupational therapist, developmental pediatrician, etc.)
Initiate and manage any formal evaluation or testing process through your local school district or private provider
Share documentation or updates with the school if accommodations or adjustments are requested
Please note: ACS does not conduct or initiate formal evaluations (IEP, IFSP, etc.) in-house. We are happy to partner with you, but the evaluation process must be led by the parent.
Our Role at ACS
As a preschool, we aim to support each child’s learning and development within the scope of our resources. While we are not a special education facility, our teachers are trained to observe developmental milestones and implement strategies that support a variety of learning styles.
If significant intervention is deemed necessary and cannot be reasonably provided within our program, ACS may recommend that families seek alternative or additional services outside the school setting. In rare cases, if a child requires extensive, ongoing support beyond what we can provide, continued enrollment may need to be reevaluated. This decision would always be made in careful consultation with the family and with the child’s best interest in mind.
We believe in addressing red flags early, not out of concern—but out of care. Early intervention is one of the most important factors in a child’s long-term academic and emotional success.
A Christ-Centered Approach
At ACS, we are committed to shepherding the hearts and minds of our students with love and wisdom. We believe every child is uniquely created by God and has a purpose. Our goal is to partner with parents in providing a nurturing environment that encourages growth, grace, and godly character.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” — Proverbs 22:6
If you have questions about your child’s development or need help identifying resources, we are here to support and guide you.
