Module 15: HyperText Markup Language (HTML)

What you will learn about and create:

(1) Create a Resume - Read about what a resume should include. You build a Website as your resume. See item (2).

Here are the key items to include (from Resume Builder):

  • Contact Information.

  • Opening Statement: Summary or Objective.

  • Work History.

  • Education.

  • Soft Skills and Technical Skills.

  • Certifications and Professional Memberships.

  • Achievements and Awards.

  • Additional Sections (Community Involvement, Volunteering, etc.)

(2) Create a Website containing Links, Graphics, and Text using appropriate design for an identified audience. The Website must have at least 3 pages with appropriate navigation.

      • HTML Basic

      • HTML Elements (NOTE: Save all images in the SAME folder as your Notepad HTML pages)

      • HTML Attributes (Alt Tag is REQUIRED by ADA legislation for all images) The ALT Tag allows people who are blind and using a reader program to know what is being displayed. Therefore, your ALT Tag should be descriptive!)

      • HTML Headings

      • HTML Paragraphs

      • HTML Styles

      • HTML Formatting

      • HTML Quotations

      • HTML Comments (All good programmers give clarifying comments as documentation)

      • HTML Colors

      • HTML Links

      • HTML Images

      • You may wish to go beyond this list for extra credit. Just make sure you DOCUMENT anything extra that you use.

    • We will use Notepad for HTML if possible

    • You can COPY and paste code and tags as you need them. Copying and pasting HTML code is an approved practice in some instances. You will need to type MOST of your own code.

    • We will use Chrome Browser to view HTML although a good Web designer checks multiple browsers to see how their page will look on many devices.

    • You will create several pages that describe what you have learned this year, your IT knowledge and skills, your school accomplishments, courses, and a paragraph about what you would like to accomplish in IT (Your vision for the future). You will need to design and organize your pages like a portfolio. A portfolio is something you could send an employer before your personal interview so that they will know some of your personal traits and skills.

    • All your pages and graphics need to be placed in a single folder (lastname_HTML) and the entire folder must be shared with me. Make sure you save your graphics before you link them in your pages. The editor will find your graphics in the shared folder, otherwise, you will have a broken link to your graphics.

QUIZ OVER- the following:

  • Ethical Use of technology and online resources

  • Understand concepts of intellectual property laws, copyright, trademarks, patents, and violation of laws

  • Learn the consequences of plagiarism.

  • Recognize unethical practices of hacking, online piracy, and data vandalism

  • Demonstrate ethical use of online resources using citation methods (MLA).

SLIDES: You will need to research the above topics on your own. In your slides make sure you supply the links to your research for each topic and summarize what you have learned. Email me when you have taken the Quiz.
