Education: M.S. Environmental Management, Harvard University
Hobbies/Interests: yoga, enjoying live music, biking, international travel, spending time with family and friends
Favorite Scientist/Engineer: Rachel Carson. Her important work set the stage for the environmental movement in the United States which has had long lasting impacts in improving the health of our environment. Ms. Carson's persistent commitment to our air and water demonstrates the power of science to improve the life of humans.
Teaching in APS since 2012.
Education: Undergrad at University of Vermont, M.Ed for Middle School Science at UMass Amherst
Hobbies/Interests: I like to swim, go on hikes, and right now I am learning how to roller skate.
Favorite Scientist/Engineer: John Todd. I first learned about him in high school where I was drawn to the beautiful Living Machines that he designed using plants and fish to purify waste water. The "machines" themselves are interesting to study, but what I appreciate about John Todd, is his commitment to using local ecology, considering the total environmental cost/debt, and economic and social implications for the community where the designs would be installed. He changed the way I thought about the long term impact of a design and its sustainability. It has also expanded by curiosity to other scientists like Paul Stamets who writes about repairing soil with oyster mushrooms, and Susan Simard who researches plant communication.
