Favorite Scientist/Engineer: Alice Ball- A chemist who discovered the first successful treatment for leprosy. Many lives were saved and many families were reunited because of her work.

Favorite Scientist/Engineer: Jane Goodall because of her extensive research on chimpanzees and her advocacy on the ongoing issues regarding the threats on chimps and the environmental crisis.

Favorite Scientist/Engineer: Marie Tharp. Marie discovered the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Her marine cartography helped prove continental drift was real. Although at first she was laughed off and told it was "girl talk."

Favorite Scientist/Engineer: Dr. Susan Chaplin, She was my undergraduate research advisor at the University of St. Thomas. Dr. Chaplin is a physiological ecologist by training and passionate about learning for both herself and her students. Even today, when I travel to Minnesota, I make time to see her and we have great discussions about teaching and learning. She has been an important mentor and friend to me throughout my career.

Favorite Scientist/Engineer: Marie Curie. She accomplished so much, including discovering 2 elements, being awarded 2 separate Nobel Prizes, and inventing portable X-ray machines that were used in WWI. Her accomplishments are quite remarkable when I consider the sexism she endured. Her determination inspires me.

Favorite Scientist/Engineer: Not sure if I have one favorite in particular, but Dr. Robert Ballard (discovered hydrothermal vents, the titanic wreck, etc) spoke with me at length when I was in high school and volunteering at the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration. He encouraged my pursuit of marine biology and a scientific career.
