What you need today: Every day you will see what you will need for class listed here. Please BRING those items to class with you. Place your materials in an out of the way location--I will trip on it, if there is something left for me to trip on.
Prayer: May the road rise up to meet you./ May the wind be always at your back./ May the sun shine warm upon your face;/ the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,/ may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Bell Ringer: Each day you will see something here you should be doing when you come into class. It will tell you what to do, and you should be starting on it WHEN THE BELL RINGS...I should NOT have to remind you to do this.
Agenda: Each numbered item after the bell ringer will be what we intend to do, most days it will have several links.
Why do we even have school? What's the point? Consider the following video.
Syllabus Highlights
Discussion Activity in small groups of 5-6 students
Today we are going to play a game that will help improve your discussion skills. There will be many pieces of paper, and each of the pieces of paper contain one clue that will help you solve a mystery. If you put all the facts together, you will be able to solve the mystery. Any time you think you know the answers and the group agrees on the guess, you may tell me. I will only tell you whether everything is correct or not. If parts of your answers are incorrect, I will not tell you which answers are wrong. You may organize yourselves in any way you like. You may not, however, pass your clues around or show them to anyone else, and you may not leave your seats to walk around the group. All sharing of clues and ideas must be done verbally.
Work Due: If there is work due, it will be listed here. Most often it will say where it should be turned in (hard copy in bin, Google Classroom, Turnitin.com, etc.) and when it is due (ex. beginning of class, end of class, end of school day, etc.).
Assignment: Have your parents review the syllabus and complete the forms attached. Due Monday at the LATEST.
What you need today: Chromebook, a pen, loose-leaf paper
Prayer: May the road rise up to meet you./ May the wind be always at your back./ May the sun shine warm upon your face;/ the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,/ may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Agenda: Each numbered item after the bell ringer will be what we intend to do, most days it will have several links.
Why do we even have school? What's the point? Consider the following video.
Preview of the Website: The links will take you to places on this website, on other websites, or to documents you may (or may not) be given hard copies of. If you lose your printed copy that has been given to you in class, you need to print your own to replace the lost of forgotten one.
If you are absent, and a handout is given, you can find it in the extra paper bin near the door. The items are placed in DATED file folders with a description of the item. For yesterday you will find a folder with the following information: Wednesday, August 21 Syllabi & Forms
If more than one sheet was handed out, a folder would be created with the date and a description for each.
If you are a student who has a notes accommodation, there is a section in that bin where you can find the notes on any day that notes are provided. Just grab what you need based on the agenda. Please see me if this pertains to you and you have questions.
If you are absent, check this website BEFORE you ask me what you missed. You will find everything here. If you find something confusing, then please reach out to me in person or email, and I can better assist you in what you missed.
This is a living document, meaning it will be updated throughout the day, probably MANY times. Each time you open up to it, refresh the page. Many students leave it open in one of their browsers and cannot see the most recent updates. I have been known to update it while we are working on something in class, to make sure the instructions are the most clear for your understanding.

Activity Debrief: Review of Discussion Activity in small groups of 5-6 students (After the Activity Discussion)
How were decisions made in your group?
Was a leader needed?
Was time lost getting organized?
Was it ineffective for everyone to talk at once?
Did problems arise because some people didn’t present their clues?
Did any members ignore the clues of others?
Were attempts made to encourage the participation of all members?
Did anyone monopolize the discussion? Was this productive for the group?
How did you organize the information to solve the mystery – time, person, location, etc?
Could you have organized the information more efficiently?

VOCABULARY STRATEGY The word temporal contains the root temp, from the Latin tempus, which means “time” or “a fixed period.” Something temporal exists in time and is not eternal. The same root is found in several other English words. PRACTICE In each sentence below, choose the word from the pair in parentheses that correctly completes each sentence. Use your knowledge of word parts and the context in which the word appears to help you make the correct choice.

Wife of Bath Prologue
CONSIDER Do men really understand women? Many jokes suggest that when it comes to emotional responses and attitudes toward relationships, men and women might as well be from different planets. But is there really such a gulf between the sexes? In “The Wife of Bath’s Tale,” a man becomes motivated to gain understanding of women when his life is at stake. Turn and discuss: Are the differences between the sexes fundamental (nature) or superficial (nurture)? Provide examples to support your assertion.
Read Wife of Bath's Tale and complete Comprehension Questions for Wife of Bath's Tale
Start group work: Close Reading Wife of Bath's Tale you may do it as a group, as long as EVERYONE does their own and EVERYONE discussed ALL of the annotations/ questions. If groups are "dividing and conquering" or other techniques meant to "lessen the amount of work" all students will do it individually. Everyone should have their own/individual Google Doc with answers. You should finish this by the end of class on Friday. If you do not finish it by then, it will become homework for Monday.
