To be able to develop an effective lesson plan teachers need to be able to create a lesson that fits the needs of all students. This means taking into account students' diverse backgrounds and learning styles and ability. In a credential course at APU I created a NGSS aligned unit plan for first graders. These three lessons require a variety of different manipulatives and materials, so I brought in the manipulatives needed for students so all students would be able to participate. I also made real life connections in my lessons by walking around the school to enhance learning and bringing in images related to the content. I altered the lesson for special needs students and EL students so it is suitable for anyone that walks into the classroom. This relates to CSTP 4 as I planned instruction and designed learning experiences for all students. I learned that making lesson plans suitable for all students enhances their individual learning and keeps them more engaged and invested in the content.
