Teachers need to truly be able to understand the content that they are teaching to better teach their students. Analyzing the curriculum design of a framework will allow there to be a richer understanding of the content, discover multiple ways to teach it, and relating to students lives outside of the classroom. I did this in a graduate course at APU. I analyzed the Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools: Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve, with a focus on kindergarten to fifth grade. What I learned from this framework is that it helps prepare students for the world outside of the classroom. It helps students solve meaningful and challenging problems, helps them make decisions, get ready for college, and for future careers. This framework is related to CSTP Standard 3 as it is the process of understanding and organizing subject matter for students' learning and future. This analysis of curriculum is designed to help evaluate the areas of scope and sequence, and balance and cover the California framework that is required for teachers to cover.
