Shelter-in-Place is similar to a lockdown, except that the students and staff are allowed to move around inside their classroom.
All students are physically supervised during a shelter-in-place.
No one is allowed in or out of the building.
Students and staff are allowed to have organized and supervised restroom breaks, medical attention, food, and water if necessary.
Students are allowed to continue their studies in a supervised classroom that is locked and secure.
Students may use their cell phones to text their parent.
New state laws change the types and number of drills schools are required to conduct each year beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. During the first four weeks of school, an emergency drill will take place once a week:
One shelter-in-place drill
One off-site evacuation drill
Two fire drills
Schools are required to conduct four additional drills during the rest of the school year:
Two fire drills
Two emergency drills determined by the school.
Students must fill out an electronic pass to use the restroom during class time.
Stalls are single occupancy.
Occupancy is limited to 5.
All restroom usage is limited to 10 minutes.
Cell phone use is prohibited (not allowed) in the bathroom. Phones should not be visible at any time while in the restroom.
Gender neutral restroom is across from the health office, single occupancy.
Students are issued a student ID that also serves as a key card. Student are required to wear a student ID at all times except in situations where the facilitator determines they are not necessary. The Student ID must be worn on a lanyard and around the neck on the exterior of the clothing. The photo and printing on the ID must be clearly visible and cannot be defaced in any way.

All visitors must check-in immediately at the front desk to sign-in and be issued a visitor badge. The main entrance is located on the southwest corner of the school.
Visitors may park in the green loading zone in front of the school. It is signed for 15 min only, but extended parking may be required due to the nature of the visit.
All visitors wishing to go to a classroom must have cleared the visit with a teacher or administration prior.
Student shadowing is only permitted for prospective students through an appointment with the Admissions Coordinator.
Community tours for those wishing to see the school during instructional hours can be scheduled with the Principal.
Students may not receive deliveries on campus from anyone who is not listed as a parent, guardian, or emergency contact for the student on the Student Information System (SIS). No student parking lot deliveries of any kind.

West Gate is the Entrance to Drop Off.
East Gate is the Entrance to Student Parking.
When exiting each area at the end of the day, it is recommended to exit the same direction used to enter to help reduce congestion at the end of the day.
Students should be aware of their surroundings when in the student parking lot. We have had theft problems over the last few years. Here are some things to keep in mind around the parking lot.
The parking lot is not a place to hang out. Students should not congregate in or around cars in the parking lot.
Do not leave anything visible in the interior of your vehicle.
Report anything suspicious you see in the student parking lot. Reports can be made to the front desk at 505-878-6400 or APS Police at 505-243-7712
Keep your head up and do not use headphones in the parking lot. Pay attention!
Do not confront, yell at, or speak to someone involved in illegal activity in the parking lot.
Never allow someone you do not know to get close to you in the parking lot. If they try to get close to you....run!

Starting the second week of school, all doors to the school will be locked. Students are issued a student ID that also provides key access at the following points on campus:
A key card-operated gate has been installed at the school entrance to the student parking lot.
The front entrance to the school can be opened with a key card.
Student parking is in the north parking lot. This lot may be accessed by turning east on McLeod off of San Mateo Blvd. Students wishing to park there must purchase a parking permit for $10.00. This permit may be revoked without refund should the student be found to drive in a dangerous manner on the school campus. The parking lot is not continuously monitored and valuables should not be left in the car. Students in grades 9-12 may not access their vehicles during passing periods, lunch, or any time during school hours, unless they are leaving for the day. Food Delivery Services: Nex+Gen does not allow the use of food delivery services such as Grub Hub and Door Dash. Such services are always turned away at the front desk. APS employees cannot accept anything on behalf of a student from a person who is not on a student's contact list in Synergy.
