First, I want you to know how happy I am to have you here with us at nex+Gen. I know that you made the choice to be a student here, and I feel confident that you will look back on it one day as one of the best choices you made in your life. The way teaching and learning looks at our school may be a little different from what you would see at another high school, but what really sets us apart is our school culture. When we talk about our culture, we are talking about the belief system that shapes our attitudes and behaviors, the way we show that we value each other and the education that takes place within this building. My goal is that if we never posted our five pillars anywhere, and asked a visitor to describe what they saw in our school, these are the words that would emerge. Without the actions that demonstrate these words, they ring hollow.
Nex+Gen Academy is a part of Albuquerque Public Schools, and as such, follows all district policies, procedures and calendars. Many of those policies are outlined in this handbook. While this handbook is not fully comprehensive, it addresses many of the concerns you may have and clarifies guidelines for discipline and attendance policy. If you have any concerns about the policies or procedures published here, I urge you to discuss them with me. I intend this to be a living document, which responds to the changing needs of the community.
Once again, I am looking forward to our journey together this year and to all of the wonderful things that we will learn.

Albuquerque Public Schools publishes the Handbook for Student Success which states guidelines for student rights and responsibilities and is not intended to provide legal advice. It does not create any contractual rights, and the school district has the discretion to modify the provisions of this handbook at any time. The nex+Gen Academy student handbook supplements the Handbook for Student Success and has guidelines more specific to nex+Gen. If a provision of an individual school’s handbook is inconsistent with the Handbook for Student Success, the APS student handbook will supersede.
The most current APS Handbook for Student Success can be found in the resources section of the APS schools page. Click on the button below.
Nex+Gen Academy publishes a public calendar where changes in bell schedule, vacation days, and all important events are posted. See the public calendar below.
