I believe that just like a textbook or a lesson plan, technology is a tool that should be carefully utilized and integrated into the classroom. My goal is to investigate different technology tools and adapt them to what teachers are already doing in the classroom, including my own Spanish classroom. The goal for integrating digital tools is to increase student engagement and student choice to show what they understand and learn in class.
2019-20 marks my second year in the APS Digital Innovator Program. Last year I advanced my Google for Education skills by earning Google Level 1 and 2 certifications. This year I hope to become a Google trainer as I lead my staff in the digital integration program at Sandia High School. Our plan is to go one to one with chromebooks in 2020. In preparation for this transition, we have formed a technology leadership team which focuses on staff needs and concerns related to technology integration.
Our technology leadership team meets monthly at lunch. I created a Google Classroom to organize our work and also model the use of Google Classroom. We have short five minute presentations by teachers and then teachers have a month to work with a tool or idea that was presented at the meeting and reflect on how it affects their teaching and learning with students and technology.
