Reshape
With the many changes occurring in the Student Government Association, we want to create lasting, meaningful relationships and gain credibility with the Student Body, university officials, and the Boone community. Our goal is to increase student participation in initiatives so that all voices are heard. As Student Body President and Vice-President we plan to take steps to improve campus infrastructure and reshape how students interact with the university during our time on the mountain.
Assemble a team of campus leaders that will help advocate for the implementation of these initiatives.
To make positive change on campus we need to enhance relationships with campus leaders to enact the changes we need to see on campus. Creating a team that listens to the needs of the student body and advocates for student voices.
Create a more collaborative environment within the SGA, replace micropoliticing and internal conflict with positive, productive relationships.
In the face of change, creating long-lasting, positive relationships within the SGA will help us encourage all perspectives being shared and will help us foment positive change at Appalachian.
Sidewalks up to Stadium Drive/Softball Lot and increased pedestrian safety (well-marked crosswalks, flashing crosswalks, etc.)
We plan to make streets in Boone more accessible and safe for all people. We want to increase pedestrian safety by repaving sidewalks, marking crosswalks, and adding more comprehensive public lighting toencourage safe walking on campus and in Boone.
15-minute parking in convenient campus locations; allow student employees free/reduced-price parking during their shifts.
Students shouldn’t feel rushed or stressed about being ticketed in any lot on campus when they’re running a quick errand. To decrease the worry of being fined, our goal is to create quick and convenient parking for students to use while briefly on campus. For student employees, making parking spots available to them to decrease the stress of finding parking on campus.
Increase thoroughness of roommate matching; improve survey and questionnaire to match students more effectively and healthy; add a disclaimerthat anything shared on the housing survey will not be shared with law enforcement or conduct officials.
Make coure evaluations and course outlines public during registration periods, so students know what to expect from their professors.
Make App State a more loving environment.
Increase the REI budget to allow for increased student-led sustainability; allow greater student participation in deciding university sustainability initiatives and projects.
Increase the SGA’s credibility when operating with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
