Juan Pablo "JP" Neri

I was born in Guadalajara, Mexico before moving to Roanoke and then Raleigh when I was four. Nowadays, my true home is App State, and whether it’s walking to class or to the football stadium, I’m always thinking of myself as a Mountaineer.

I bleed Black & Gold. My closet is filled with more App State shirts, hats, and sweatshirts than I can count, and I spend most of my waking hours on ‘Neer Twitter trying to get the inside scoop on our football and basketball programs.

During my time here I’ve copy edited for The Appalachian, chaired the Committee on Sustainable Development for the Student Government Association, raised money as the Student Fundraising Coordinator for App Builds a Home, talked to students about the Honors College as a Chancellor’s Scholar, walked up countless hills as an App State Tour Guide, attended meetings of the Chief Diversity Officer’s Advisory Board as a Mountaineer Inclusive Guide, led a group of rising high school seniors as an ASUlead mentor, welcomed incoming freshmen into our campus as an AppolCorps director, tested food as a member of the Dining Student Advisory Board, and even been a substitute teacher at my old high school.

I have dedicated my college career to trying to make App State a better place for students–present and future–and throughout my time here I’ve made a lot of connections with faculty, and administrators that have allowed me to voice my opinions and meet with the right people to make things happen.

As Student Body President I will continue to be a voice for the student body and represent their needs. I promise to give my all for every student at this university and make sure App State becomes a place where everyone feels seen, heard, and accepted. With our real, tangible goals, I believe that we can make App State a better place than it was when we got here.

Together, I really believe there is no mountain high enough and no challenge we can’t overcome. Thanks for your support, and I look forward to seeing what we can do! Go App!
