Accessibility
As Student Body President and Vice-President, we believe that allowing students easier access to resources is imperative to our success. Whether that is accessibility in our physical infrastructure or promoting important university departments and offices, no student should ever feel like they cannot take advantage of all that App State has to offer. Our policy goals include all types of accessibility, because we think that every student here at App State deserves the right to feel comfortable during their time here.
Expand Appalcart services to unserved areas like the Quinn Recreation Center.
Transportation should be accessible for all App State students. The Quinn Recreation Center is located near Kidd Brewer Stadium. This location is not far from other bus stops around campus. There is already a bus stop at other recreation stations on campus. The bus route should be accessible to all recreational facilities. Adding a new bus stop here would allow faster and easier transportation for students.
Increase affordability in the markets, more competitive/reasonable pricing.
The products at the App State markets have an excessive price package to them. No student should have to pay exorbitant prices for personal care products, necessary dietary foods, and medicine. It is unjustifiable for students to have to be solely limited to overpriced products. Students already pay for a meal plan, housing, and other supplies. We should not have to dig deep into our wallets for items in these locations.
Add Audible Pedestrian Signals to crosswalks around campus and Boone, making crosswalks safer and more accessible for visually impaired individuals.
Audible Pedestrian Signals allow for visually impaired pedestrians to understand when it is safe to cross the street. These machines are already in use within the state of North Carolina. We believe App State needs to ensure the needs of visually impaired students are met.
Allow “shopping around” for classes and interests–A day off when professors can host introductory lectures on their topics for students to attend at their leisure.
Students already use their first week to decide what classes they do and do not want to take. We believe it is necessary for students to be able to be able to enter into a “trial period” where they can test the waters on their classes. Introductory lectures would ensure students understand the concepts prevalent within their course, its workload, and if it meets their requirements to graduate.
Free toilet paper for suite-style dorms, increase TP quality for all campus bathrooms to increase comfort and feeling of home on campus.
Free access to educational aids such as Grammarly premium.
The writing center is great, but for simple and last-minute grammatical suggestions, Grammarly premium can be invaluable and time-saving.
Increase access to trash cans, especially on west-side.
Sustainability is a main aspect for our campaign. We believe that students need a place to throw away their garbage. West Side is lacking the materials necessary for students to diminish their waste. We want to keep App State as beautiful as possible. In order to do this, West Side needs more trash cans.
Free birth control/menstrual health products (condoms, period products, etc.) in all residence halls. Access to safe sexual products.
Increase accessibility on campus…our mountain/hilly location shouldn’t prevent anyone from going and loving Appalachian; upgrade the sidewalks to make them more ADA accessible.
Expand Appalcart/ Allow students a greater say in AppalCart routes and schedules to better fit class schedules and campus/student lifestyles.
