In our opinion, Cookout is a cheap, tasty alternative to the worldwide fast-food chains. While the food can absolutely be hit or miss, isn't every restaurant that is in the fast-food industry? Cookout uses elements of a cost leadership and differentiation strategy that attracts their customers, including us. Offering a wide variety of food at a low price is very attractive to many Americans and especially those in a college town. For the most part, the food is very good compared to other fast-food chains. There are not any places that we know of that offer such a diverse menu while still keeping the food up to a certain quality standard. Not to mention they offer long hours of service up to 3am or 4am seven days a week. Overall, we are big fans of Cookout and have eaten here more times than we could count.
Burgers, chicken sandwiches, barbeque, and milkshakes are all items that we see as having the greatest international potential. Outside of certain countries based on religious beliefs, burgers and barbeque are items that if not already accepted in a certain area, could provide people with a hearty dish that represents American cuisine. Chicken dishes are pretty widely accepted around the world and could be easier to market worldwide over a burger or barbeque. It is also important to note that Cookout offers many different styles in which you can have your burger or chicken sandwich prepared which would allow for local responsiveness. Offering over 40 delicious milkshakes allows Cookout to have an item that will translate anywhere in the world. Not only does this help adhere to locals, but it can also introduce some new flavors to customers. And besides, who doesn't love a good milkshake? We think cookouts entire menu could succeed internationally due to the fact that it is so diverse, but those products in particular are ones we could see succeed in a different market.
