The student is responsible for providing the Banner ID and PIN information to those who have been granted access. Any request for information by the specified individual(s) requires the knowledge of these numbers.
Please visit Parent and Family Services for more information on family involvement.
The University Parking and Transportation Department are responsible for providing parking services for all faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the campus. Management of the university's nearly 6,500 parking spaces is accomplished through vehicle registration and enforcement of the Parking and Transportation Regulations. A valid parking permit is required to be displayed on any vehicle parked on campus. Registration for a campus parking permit is found online via AppalNet during the month of July. Students will receive multiple email notifications leading up to the registration period, complete with the schedule and instructions. Eligibility for parking assignments are based on the availability of space, and the number of credit hours a student has on file with the Registrar’s Office. Since not all students will be able to secure a campus parking permit, it is highly recommended that you attempt to register as soon as the system allows you to do so. Nearly all student parking areas are served by AppalCART. For more information, contact Parking and Transportation at (828)262-2878, email (parking@appstate.edu), or visit AppState's Parking Website.
Review our Paying for Colleges videos so you understand Appalachian’s billing cycle and how your student account works.

Students who live on campus will be assigned a post office box at Appalachian. An email will be sent to your AppState email account notifying you when this occurs. You can access your box number through your AppalNet account under the "Personal Information" tab and then select the "Addresses and Phone Numbers" tab. Your combination will be provided with your box number in AppalNet. You should check your AppState PO box at least twice a week because mail from many campus offices is sent to that address. Students living off-campus must opt-in and pay a $41 per semester fee in order to have a PO box on campus. The post office is located behind the Student Union in the Miles Annas Building. For more information, call (828) 262-2246 or visit the AppState Post Office.
Appalachian students who are interested in becoming educators are required to apply to Teacher Education. The Praxis Core Tests are the first requirement toward eligibility for applying to teacher education. The Praxis tests measure the academic skills and subject-specific content knowledge needed for teaching in North Carolina Public Schools. The Praxis®Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) are comprehensive assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates entering teacher preparation programs. Some students may be exempt from some sections depending on ACT or SAT scores. This process must be completed before students can take some of the key classes to complete their majors in education. Refer to testing for more information or call 828-262-6095 for more information.
A prerequisite is a requirement that must be completed before taking a course. Some examples of requirements include:
a certain grade in a previous class
a certain score on a placement test
Similarly, a co-requisite is a course that must be taken at the same time as another class. To find out whether a course has a pre or co-requisite, you can look it up on the Undergraduate Bulletin or on DegreeWorks.
A student is placed on Academic Probation when their cumulative GPA drops below 2.0. A student has two semesters of Academic Probation before they move into Academic Suspension. For more information please refer to the "Academic Regulations" section of your catalog year in the Undergraduate Bulletin. You can also get more information on this from your academic advisor.
Each major has a Program of Study that lists all the requirements for earning a degree in that major. Programs of Study are updated every year in the Undergraduate Bulletin. Students should refer to the Program of Study from the academic year that they entered Appalachian (this is called your "Catalog Year").
2021-2022 Programs of Study, as well as ones from previous years, are archived online on the Undergraduate Bulletin. Students are responsible for becoming familiar with their degree requirements.
All first-year students, including transfer students, who do not declare their majors right away, have required advising with their University College advisor.
