The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. The ASVAB also provides an interest assessment and planning tools to help young adults explore career field entry requirements and various career paths, both military and civilian.
The test measures your knowledge in nine areas:
General Science - Life, earth, space and physical sciences
Arithmetic Reasoning - Ability to solve basic math and word problems
Word Knowledge - Ability to grasp the meaning of words through synonyms
Paragraph Comprehension - Ability to understand written material
Mathematics - Math concepts and applications
Electronics - Electrical current, circuits, devices and electronic systems
Auto and Shop - Car maintenance and repair, and wood and metal shop
Mechanical - Principles of mechanical devices, structural support, properties of materials
Assembling Objects - Ability to determine how an object will look when its parts are put together
The ASVAB test is open to 11th and 12th graders
The ASVAB is timed and takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
After you take your initial ASVAB, you must wait one calendar month to retake the test. You must wait an additional calendar month to retest a second time. After that, you must wait six calendar months to retake the ASVAB. Your scores may be used for enlistment for up to two years from the date of testing.
