The Family Farm in Northfield
We have 2 summer math programs for incoming 6th graders at VMSS. Both programs are for high-potential math students who want to advance their math course of study by one or two years.
The Summer Independent Study Math Focus is for extremely gifted math students. These students will complete an independent study of the 6th grade curriculum and key 7th grade learning targets over the summer. These students will take diagnostic chapter/unit tests to determine which targets they need to learn. They will then watch an instructional video on these targets and check in with Mr. Dudley to make sure they understand the concepts they missed. They continue this cycle until they have gone through all of the 6th grade targets and key 7th grade learning targets. Upon successful completion of SIS, studebnts will be enrolled in Algebra (8th grade math( in the fall. Students that qualify for this program are sent a letter inviting them to attend an informational meeting in April or May each year.
Over the summer I take a group of kids willing to attend the summer academy and teach them chapters one and three of 6th grade math. Our summer work opens up an additional 32 days of instruction during the school year that can be spent on 7th grade standards. These students are enrolled in my G67 section of math in the September. During the year they will work their way through the G67 series of instructional videos I created. Students that qualify for this program are sent a letter inviting them to attend an informational meeting in April or May each year.
More details are available on each program on their respective pages within this site.
E67 Students do not have the head start that the G67 students have when they start the year. Students in the E67 class need to cover more standards in less time. They will have independently study approximately 8 seventh grade targets each trimester. This is an invitation only program. Students that qualify for this program are sent a letter inviting them to attend an informational meeting in April or May each year.
Any sixth grader who wants to enrich their math skills can participate in the Independent Study I67 program. Students do not need to be in one of Mr. Dudley's Sections.
