Penny wars are about helping others. Each year, every grade chooses a charity they will fight for during the Penny Wars by bringing money and sabotaging other grades, so theirs can win. During the month of May, the Parent Booster Club sets a table in the hallway where all can drop off some money to help support others. All U.S. money is welcomed. Even though it is called Penny Wars, we take bills, checks and others coins.
Each grade has a bin, labeled 6th, 7th and 8th. Every day, DHMS announces which grade is winning (and we add the numbers so you can verify).
If you want to win money for your grade's charity you add to your bin: pennies, dollars and checks (positive money adds to your bin).
If you want to sabotage or take away money from other grades, you add to their bins: dimes, quarters and nickels (negative money subtracts from other bins with positive numbers).
At the end of the week the bin with the most positive money wins.
The winning grade wins all!! Then they donate 50% to a charity of their choice.
The remaining 50% of money collected goes to supporting our school.
