As Halloween rolls around, a question that people seem to have every year around this time is should teens be able to trick or treat? I believe that teens should be able to and here's why, My first reason is that you only get to be a kid for so long, what I mean by that is that we should not rush kids into stopping doing an activity like this as you only have so long to be a kid and I think we should give kids time to cherish what they have and to cherish time with their friends. Rushing kids is something that already happens in the U.S through schooling and it is one of the, unfortunately few days that kids have to be more stress free and for them to enjoy time with their friends. While some will make the counter argument that after a certain age older children can scare or intimidate other younger children. I think that that counter claim is ridiculous and that if it is such an issue then go with your child or go trunk or treating because older kids should not be penalized because of younger children.
My second reason is that kids in this time period already don't go outside enough and taking away a thing that gets kids outside and socializing is helping no one. Something that helps kids talk to people and learn to socialize to a higher level.
AI and Homework
By Isabella Dixon
Should students be allowed to use Artificial Intelligence like Chat GPT or Google Gemini on their homework? I think they should be able to use AI to an extent. Meaning, if a student tried to work out a math problem but still didn’t know how to do it, they could use AI to help. AI is like a computer and it is used to perform tasks that require human intelligence. Some students use AI to cheat and do their homework to get good grades but if used right, it could really help you.
AI can help you with any school work there is. AI is a very useful tool if used correctly. For example, AI explains the question and the answer for you, so you can have a better understanding of the question. AI can also create things for you to help you learn easier. Like creating a study guide so that you can study for a test.
Some students use AI incorrectly, like only using it for the answers or actually writing an entire paper for them. This behavior is why schools do not allow students to use AI. It takes away from the learning process and could make students lazy when it comes to doing the work. What are they actually learning if Artificial Intelligence is doing the work for them? So which side are you on and what do you think about AI?
Too Early To Learn
By Elizabeth V.
The sound of an alarm early in the morning is something many students dread. For some, walking up for early in the morning means, sacrificing their hours sleep, just to go to school to learn the same thing they did yesterday. While early school start times may help schedules organized and may seem ideal, they can make it difficult for students to get enough rest, resulting in students sleeping in class, zoning out,or even bad behavior.
Schools should consider starting later in the morning because it gives students more time to rest, which could help increase students' concentration, increase academic performance, and maintain their overall health.
Lack of sleep can affect students' well-being in several ways, especially when they have to wake up early for school every day.Not getting enough sleep can weaken the body's ability to fight against sickness and leave students feeling tired throughout the day.
Sleep deprivation can increase stress, irritability, and anxiety.Students may also struggle to pay attention in class, remember information and complete assignments.Tired students may have less energy for sports, hobbies, and other daily activities
If schools were to start later, I guarantee there will be a significant increase in students academic performance, better mental health, and better behaviors.Since teenagers melatonin levels naturally rise at 11:00pm,schools should consider starting at 10am-5pm.
