Junior English

The course offers a chronological approach to American literature, the class will begin with work of the American Romantics considering much of the Colonial nonfiction is covered in the various history classes throughout high school. The American literature focus will then shift to the American Renaissance ending just before the start of the Civil War. Although the emphasis is on literature rather than grammar, there will be reinforcement of basic grammar rules. Students will also be involved in several cooperative projects and will be engaged in various writing activities based on class readings throughout the school year in order to prepare them for post secondary writing at a college level. The novel and various vocabulary exercises will be incorporated as well. Other activities may include a research project the fourth quarter.
