"I WOULD LIKE TO PAINT THE WAY A BIRD SINGS" ~ CLAUDE MONET
"I WOULD LIKE TO PAINT THE WAY A BIRD SINGS" ~ CLAUDE MONET
Below is one of Claude Monet's garden paintings. We were working on filling the halls of GSB with beautiful garden paintings, remember? Monet liked gardens so much that he planted 247 acres so that he would always have lovely things to paint!!
You can create a drawing or painting of a garden using any supplies you have available to you. Think about the horizon line & remember that the sky really does touch the ground. There is nothing wrong with sketching your version of this Monet painting. Artists always get ideas from each other. Do you notice the way that the artist gave his painting spatial depth? He made some things look close & others far away. You 6th 7th & 8th graders might recognize his use of One-Point Perspective to create this illusion.
Monet was one of the Impressionists, like Vincent Van Gogh, Renoir, & Seurat. These artists were experimenting with color & light, they were trying to catch the feeling of a place. They applied their paint thickly, bringing the viewer's attention to the wind blowing the grass, the sunlight dappled through branches or reflections on water. People generally didn't like their paintings at the time, which often happens in the 'Art World". Why do you think that happens?
Create your own garden artwork. You can use any supplies that you have, pencils, cardboard, crayons, paint, anything. Try to add layers of plants & flowers and fill in the whole sky. Do you notice all of the overlap in Monet's painting? So beautiful!
