"Collage" is a french word that simply means 'glue stuff'. To get started gather some supplies. Some of the best stuff can be found in the recycling bin. It can help you to get started on a collage by using an old map, cereal box, or newspaper. Try looking for interesting colors, textures, & words. It doesn't need to end up a picture of something, it can be kind of like zen drawing.
Matisse is one of the most famous artists who created collages, and this is one of my favorites. You can do something like this. Glue down 2 or 3 colors that you like together, then cut a different color for the top layer. Matisse did his first layer with 2 shades of blue, then cut the white bird & seaweed shapes and glued those on top. Make it your own. Use whatever supplies are available to you.
