Social Studies

Major concepts in social studies include:

• Understanding terms used to describe political regions (ie. continent/country/state/city) and physical features (ie. mountain ranges, plains, etc.)

• Being able to explain basic information about the geography, history, economy and government of the community, Maine, the United States, and various regions of the world

• Understanding how governments work and the rights and responsibilities of citizens

• Understanding basic ideas of personal finance

My goals for your child in social studies:

• To have a sense of what other parts of the world are like

• To develop an interest in learning more about other people and places

• To have an awareness of important historical events in Maine and the United States
