Major concepts in science include:
Designing and participating in simple experiments

To ask questions and follow-up questions
We alternate between third and fourth grade learning goals, with school years beginning with an odd number (2023-2024) focusing on third grade learning goals and school years beginning with an even number (2024-2025) focusing on fourth grade learning goals.Â
Third grade learning goals include the following topics:
Weather and climate
Fossils
Life cycles
Traits within species
Fourth grade learning goals include the following topics:
Energy (including sound and light waves)
Adaptations that help organisms survive
Geology
In third and fourth grade science is learned through a great deal of outdoor exploration. We use Mystery Science as one resource for building scientific knowledge. We also have partnerships with the Darling Marine Center and Coastal Rivers to provide outdoor experiential learning throughout the year.
