PEPS Newborn and Second Time Around Group Leaders facilitate a 2-hour, weekly peer support group for parents of newborns. This includes planning; guiding the parents in sharing highs and lows; a topic discussion; and developmental moment. PEPS provides up-to-date topic guides for our facilitators to use to lead the group topic discussions. Parents learn through peer discussions.
Leaders commit to these weekly group meetings for 12 weeks.
The emphasis is on shared information and mutual support in a community of parents to help them develop confidence in their own parenting abilities. All you need to do is facilitate. There is a preparation training and curriculum given to help you facilitate.
Time Commitment Leaders should expect to spend 3-4 hours weekly, on average (meeting prep, 2-hour meeting time, and communicating with group members and the PEPS staff).
Responsibilities
· Attend and Lead 12 meetings –
· Maintain weekly attendance and submit weekly reports to PEPS staff; distribute parent-related materials and mid-point evaluations, and encourage parent completion of Survey Monkey post-group program evaluation.
· Deliver standard format of PEPS meetings each week; prepare a Topic Discussion for each meeting, engage the group in developmental activity; communicate with the group after each weekly meeting with a follow-up email to share a summary of the meeting and appropriate resources, as needed.
· Maintain group facilitation and logistics – start and end meetings on time, and manage and support group dynamics and members.
· Attend required training/meetings—attend training before leading the first session.
· Attend additional training offered to PEPS leaders on topics like Mindfulness, Social and Racial identity, and more.
We have groups starting on different dates and days during each month. We finalize the filled groups and inform the assigned leader, usually 1 week before the start date.
Sometimes we have to cancel groups a couple of weeks before the start date if the number of registrations is too low. As you can understand, it is not viable to run an effective PEPS group if the number of participants is less than 5 for daytime groups or less than 4 couples for evening groups. The assigned Leader will then be offered a different group option.

Since 1983, the Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS), a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization has helped parents connect and grow as they begin their journey into parenthood. PEPS parent support programs educate, inform and create community.
We've become a vital resource for new parents in the Puget Sound region, with parent groups serving thousands of families annually.
EQUITY We strive for better access and outcomes for every family, centering those most impacted by disparities.
INNOVATION We are bold, curious, and creative in seeking new ways to deepen impact.
INCLUSION We welcome all parents, honoring their experiences, identities, and voices through a culture of belonging and acceptance.
COMMUNITY We believe that human connection is at the heart of meaningful parent support. Through shared experience, parents know they are not alone.
AUTHENTICITY We show up and speak up with humility, vulnerability and strength. We create space for parents to do the same.
PEPS Equity Statement: We believe that all new families should have access to a healthy, supported start in life. As long as race and ethnicity continue to predict the future life chances of children in our state, we are committed to working with families, partner organizations, and communities to identify barriers to parent support and wellness, interrupt their negative impact and eliminate the persistent disparities in child outcomes.
