Artist Statement
Throughout my high school years, I have been living and traveling in different cities: Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Sacramento, San Francisco, Bryn Athyn, and others around the globe. Peering through the viewfinder allows me to express my feelings and show my creativity on these new lands with others.
Portrait and documentary photography are my two main styles. By catching people’s facial expressions and recording their daily lives, I find that photography alters my perception of the world. I would like to use my camera, to use a different art style to dissolve the serious and record the history. During the pandemic, being a “quaranteenager” provides me more chances to explore still life photography. Photography gives me the tools to interpret my surroundings uniquely, to conjure inspiration from the most overlooked of subjects, and to share the story behind the scene. By playing with the lighting, shutter speed, or model’s costumes, I enjoy being an artist to plan and make more interesting and creative photographs.
The most personal is the most creative. In the future, I will blend my personal feelings with the eye of the artist to bring the power of photography to my audience--to inspire, to tug at hearts, to sway emotions.
