Activity A: Make an Online Portal for Your Class
The first step in getting started each year is creating your Google Classroom. You want to do this first and even though you may give students a CODE to join, you also should know how to ‘invite’ them. For assignments, it is very important that you know how to give each student a copy, when you create an assignment so complete the activity below to ensure your competency here.
Create a Classroom and give it a name.
Invite students Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones. (L1)
Create an assignment, using a document from Drive and giving each student a copy. (L1)
Activity B: Create a Shared Calendar for Parents & Students
When you create a ‘Classroom’ a calendar is created in your ‘Calendars' that you can make public and embed on your website. Combine assignments and other class related dates on this calendar so parents/students can reference it.
On the Classwork page click on the link to your ‘Google Calendar’
Click on the drop down to the right of your classroom Calendar
Share & make it Public on the web
Activity D: Create an Online Portal for Parents USE NEW SITES (sample)
Now that you have your classroom and calendar ready with a public syllabus, all of this can be collected/accessed through your ‘public’ website. Refer parents to this for your assignment updates, referencing your syllabus, your contact information and anything else you want to share.
Create a website with your calendar and syllabus embedded and a link to classroom/blog.
Create and name a site L2 Your Name
Add title ‘Welcome to Class’
Rename the 'PAGE' Home to ‘Welcome’
Add welcoming text and an image of Google Classroom that links to your classroom.
Create a page called Calendar (under home page)
Embed your Public calendar
Create a page called Syllabus
Insert your Syllabus
Create a page called Videos
Add text at the top: Watch recommended videos for our class topics!
Find a way to insert a video from YouTube & search for one to add.
Insert the Movie to play in the site.
Below, create a text link to the video this way with brief description.
