Note: Be sure you can create a calendar event, invite others and add a Google Meet.
One feature of Google Calendar is the option to make any of its calendars public, so anyone can see events whether they have a Google account or not. A more unique feature (only available for G Suite for Education accounts) is an option called, “Appointment slots,” where an educator can select an interval of time during which other Google users can schedule an appointment, alleviating the need for the teacher to do the actual scheduling. Educators love this feature to help schedule meetings on conference days.
1. Go to calendars and open week view.
2. Create appointment slots for 3 hours next week for tech consults.
3. Share the link to the appointment slots with riverdale@amtechnology.org
About Appointment Slots:
To create an appointment slot, simply select a chunk of time from your Google Calendar. A box will pop up asking for details of the event and at the top of this box there will be an option labeled “Appointment slots.” Fill out the necessary details and then provide the sharing link to your audience so they can book a time with you.
Mr. Jones is a math teacher at a small high school. It is the start of the new year and he wants to make sure the guardians of his students have all the information they need about the year ahead.
First, he wants to make sure they are aware of the key assignment dates so that they can support their children throughout the learning process. Second, he wants to schedule some one-to-one conferences with the guardians so he can share their students’ individual goals for the year.
He already has a Google Classroom set up for his class where guardians frequently see class updates and homework information. He wants to set up these appointments for an upcoming date in the future, but doesn’t want to have to deal with the actual scheduling. Unfortunately, he simply doesn’t have the time to answer all the emails and schedule individual meetings for each of his 25 students.
If you were in Mr. Jones’s situation, how might you speed up the process of informing guardians of key dates and scheduling these appointments in order to free up time to actually prepare for each meeting?
