Pike's Peak Atrium Outgoing Group Leader's Message
Beloved Fraters and Sorors,
As we come to the end of a Rosicrucian year, we come also to the beginning of another. And beginnings imply changes.
How many of us like change? I don’t, not usually. But I do find change useful. Not just change for the sake of change, but change for the sake of a new perspective, a fresh point of view.
Let’s take the age-old argument of who or what God is, and what God may be like. Each of us has a different perspective, a different definition of God. Wars have been fought over those differences of opinion.
But if we step back a little and look at a larger picture, we may find that we can each be right, and still hold our own opinion. It may be that we are like the five blind beggars of the old Hindu proverb, all introduced to an elephant, but to each a different part.
One found the tail, and decided the elephant was like a rope.
Another found an ear, and thought the elephant like a leaf.
The third found the tip of a tusk, and declared the elephant was like a sharp rock.
The fourth encountered the trunk, and was sure the elephant was a living hose.
The fifth blind beggar stumbled against the elephant’s side, and knew the elephant was in immovable wall.
Likewise, our beliefs and experiences of the infinite creative force that many of us call God or the Cosmic, may each be so different that we argue endlessly, forgetting that we have no actual perspective of anything infinite, when viewed from our relatively minute, finite human existence.
So how can we better appreciate these differences from a mystical perspective? One way is to pass the torch of leadership to another at the beginning of each Rosicrucian New Year.
It is that time, so now I pass that torch to another, and await with eager anticipation how he will lead our Atrium Group.
With all good wishes for Peace Profound, I am
Dave Wheeler
