On Friday, December 20th, we held the second-term closing ceremony at the Fuku-Fuku Auditorium. Before the ceremony, a Gardening Contest organized by the Environmental Beautification Committee was held. After the ceremony, a birthday party was held for students born in December. Although the day was packed with activities, the children completed everything until the very end.
During the closing ceremony, each class gave a presentation reflecting on the second term. The purpose of this reflection is to provide the children with an opportunity for self-evaluation, helping them identify areas they did well in to further develop, and areas that need improvement to enhance their abilities, such as "thinking skills, judgment skills, and expressive abilities." This initiative started this year, and the content of the students' presentations is gradually becoming more refined, capturing both individual and overall realities.
"Second Term Gardening Contest"
The Gardening Contest was organized by the Environmental Beautification Committee. The judging was done by the students.
The first place was awarded to the 2nd-year flower bed. The arrangement of the flowers was excellent.
The second place went to the 2nd-year middle school flower bed. The flowers were blooming beautifully.
The third place went to the 1st-year flower bed. The collaboration between the flowers and tomatoes was wonderful.
The 3rd-year flower bed did not win an award, but the flowers were beautifully planted by type. Additionally, R-kun has been diligently pulling weeds every day, and the care given to the garden is thorough. As a result, R-kun was awarded a special prize.

On December 2 (Mon.), a comprehensive evacuation drill was held to simulate a fire immediately after an earthquake. Since our school occupies the first floor of the Ginowan Human Resource Development Exchange Center, the evacuation drill is conducted jointly with the Exchange Center staff on the second floor. This time, we assumed that a fire would break out in the office one minute after the earthquake, and all staff and students were to complete the evacuation within five minutes. We did not tell the children the time of the fire, but all students were able to line up at the evacuation site and complete the roll call within 3 minutes after the earthquake. Although the school thought it had met its target time, the Ginowan Fire Department staff advised that the time required for evacuation should be as short as possible. Therefore, we confirmed to the staff that we would make efforts to be more agile in our daily activities so that the next evacuation could be completed in a shorter period of time.
Hearing the signal of an earthquake, children hide under their desks.
Earthquake! Everyone, cover your heads!
Children cover their heads and mouths with their arms and evacuate. At this point, many children are unaware that this is a drill. The children evacuate from the back exit, which is far from the fire.
Junior high school students were calmly evacuating without making any noise. Firefighters check the evacuation.
Teachers checking the number of people in their class. No one is hurt.”
Classroom teachers ensured that reports were made to the superintendent. This is an important job to protect lives.
Firefighters demonstrating how to use a fire extinguisher.
Teachers also took up the challenge. It is not a race. The key to extinguishing a fire is to start from the front and work your way to the source of the fire.
Students also tried it. What a surprisingly weak water pressure. It's for practice.
I want to do it too! Two students volunteered to join the teachers.
Mr. Chika, the director of the center, gave a critique of today's evacuation. He said, “Although it was a drill, it was good that you were able to act safely and without injury.”
A representative of the Ginowan Fire Department staff gave a review of the comprehensive drill. The younger students' chattering was noticeable because it was their first practice, so let's try to do it quietly next time. The more you practice, the more you will learn what is important. Don't worry.”
On behalf of the students, Mr. W of G9 thanked the Ginowan Fire Department staff. I think today's drill will be useful in the event of an earthquake or fire. Thank you very much.”
On Wednesday, November 27, we held a Thanksgiving Day. Originally, Thanksgiving Day is said to be an occasion to give thanks for the harvest of crops and the blessings of God, and to enjoy traditional food with family and friends. In addition, the children will work on this important day to express their gratitude toward those close to them who have always taken care of them. This year, the student council prepared paper feathers on which they wrote messages of gratitude and attached them to turkey panels. The photo shows the turkey panel on which each student's feather message was attached. The student council members carefully attached the feathers one by one.
The picture of the turkey was painted by the student council members on the rough sketch drawn by Mr. L. The student council was the one who came up with the idea for this turkey panel. I was not willing to give in to the students' wishes, as my goal was to have all students participate in the project.
Student council members preparing for the Thanksgiving occasion. Not pictured, but other members are working on clipping wings for all students.
The three student council members who stayed until the end to finish the panel. From left to right: Mr. J from G5, Mr. E from G9, and Mr. A from G9. Thank you for your hard work.
The most common address of the messages written by the children was “family. Next were parents, mothers, friends, food, nature, the earth, and everything that makes me happy.

Mr. Lowen gave a lecture on the history of Thanksgiving day and its purpose. This time, he also tried his hand at Japanese and received a big round of applause from the children.
The two on the right are Ms. N, the student body president, and Ms. M, the vice president, who presided over the assembly.
After the assembly, each class wrote messages on paper wings. The children write seriously about their feelings of gratitude.

Mr. Nakano volunteered to be the photographer for the Halloween party. There are a lot of good photos. Thank you very much.
Kindergartners. I can't wait for the party to start.
These Halloween pumpkins were made the day before by T-kun, a first-year junior high school student, and the children of the school. The one on the left was designed by T-kun, and the one on the right by Y-kun, a 4th grader. The candles were brought by Ms. Yumiko. These Halloween pumpkin lanterns were simple but enough to make the party more exciting. Thank you all! The pumpkins were provided by a parent, Ms. Walker. Thank you.
Students and teachers alike should all have fun. Minako-sensei's costume is quite a sight.

"Ring Toss Game"
"A-kun, a 6th grader, was in charge of the ring toss game. The students were able to manage everything on their own. Everyone, please follow the rules!"
"Here are the 1st-year middle school students challenging the ring toss. But still, who is that?!"
"T-kun from G7 takes on the ring toss challenge. How will it turn out?
Successfully done!!! 'Yay!' A great cheer erupted. His homeroom teacher, Mr. Lowen, was also thrilled! Is this the true teacher-student bond?"
"Balloon Popping Darts"
"B-kun, a 2nd-year middle school student, was in charge of the balloon popping darts. He restrained himself from doing what he wanted and focused on supporting behind the scenes. This chopstick dart game was his original idea."
"H-san, a 6th grader, is taking on the balloon darts challenge. This is their first time participating in the Halloween party. I have fun. I'm happy!"
"Set your sights on it."
"Come on, hit it!"
"Oh my Goodness! I can't hit it! Chondara is also in a helpless state."
"I'm boosting my concentration."
"This is the true identity of the alien twins!"
"I wonder if I can pop this balloon?"
"Thank you in advance. The kindergarten children also follow the rules carefully. This helps cultivate a rich, compassionate heart. It also leads to the development of life skills."
"How should I throw it? Like this? Through play, we enrich creativity. This is true early childhood education!"
"The oldest of the Minions Brothers, N-kun, a 3rd-year middle school student. I'll show you how it's done. So, how about that?!"
"Putter Golf"
"R-kun, a 2nd-year middle school student and member of the student council, suggested the idea of putter golf. He happily took on the responsibility of overseeing the golf activity. He was great at teaching the younger children, first allowing them to hit the ball freely based on their own ideas, and then showing them how to hold the putter and how to swing it.
J-kun (on the left) and S-kun, both 1st graders, are enjoying the game of golf."
"Kindergarten children enjoying the golf game. Meanwhile, the two in charge are very busy picking up the balls. The Son Goku on the right is J-kun, a 2nd-year middle school student and member of the student council, who is in charge of golf."
"Before the next grade begins, the two discuss the rules of the game and how to proceed. This is exactly the kind of life skill we, as teachers, want to help children develop: 'the ability to identify challenges and solve them on their own.' This is a valuable photo that illustrates the purpose and significance of school events."
"N-kun, a 2nd grader, is the center of attention. His stance is great!"
"M-kun, a 1st grader. Alright, let's do this!"
"K-kun, a 2nd grader. Chondara also loves golf."
"Ball, where are you going? Enthusiastic S-kun, a 1st-year middle school student."
"The club size doesn't fit! But still, Vice President M-san really worked hard."
"Mini Bowling"
"J-kun, a 6th grader in charge of bowling, and Mr. Wani.
'Mr. Wani, we'll give candy to anyone who gets a strike!'
'Hmm…'
In the back, Mia-sensei and Marichu-sensei are helping to set up the pins. There should be one more student in charge, though. Where are they?!
It turned out later that the student responsible for the bowling had not participated in the pre-game meeting and had no idea they were in charge of the bowling activity.
It was an event that made us realize how important it is to confirm details just before the event, but through such incidents, the children learn many valuable lessons."
"The pin is a plastic bottle, and the ball is a dodgeball. The ball keeps bouncing, and I can't seem to get a strike! Still, the venue is way too small. No matter how mini it is... Sorry about that."
"Let the teachers play golf too."
"Since there was a little time left in the game, I suggested holding a representative golf match with the middle school leaders. However, it turned into a request to see the teachers play golf, and as shown in the following photos, the staff joined in and had fun as well. It was a big hit with the children cheering us on. I’m grateful for the children’s thoughtfulness!"
"Teacher Jenna, who learned how to play golf from Mr. Travis, starts the game as the first player. She’s laughing, but she might be a little nervous."
Are you ready? Here we go!
