I will tell you all about how things are going at school, what I am worried about, and what I would like to request...
2024/03/21 Assembly
Everyone stand.
The assembly will now begin.
Bow.
Please be seated.
Today is the last student council meeting of the year.
First of all, I would like to celebrate this month's birthdays. There are 6 people this month.
Please come up so we can all sing together. The presenter today is LS.
Congratulations. Now let's all sing Happy Birthday.
Next we will hear from the principal.
Hello, today I would like to tell you something important.
I have been working at this school for the past two years, but I have decided to quit this March.
The reason is that my mother, who is 97 years old, is not feeling well and I have to help my family with their work. So, it's not that I don't like this place, I actually wanted to stay here for the rest of next year, but I'm sorry. It ends here.
I wanted to scold you more harshly. I wanted to scold you a lot and help AmerAsian School grow strong.
There are many schools called international schools in Okinawa and in Japan. However, most of the students are Japanese, and there is no other school with so many teachers and students from all over the world. Everyone is surprised. Although we are small, we are a very big school connected to the world. Today's newspaper features CK, a graduate who passed the Eiken Level 1 exam. Just like this year's graduates, do what you like and what you are good at.
School doesn't educate you.
You are the ones who will grow the school.
Tomorrow is the last day and the last graduation ceremony. Let's all celebrate.
There are many guests coming. Everyone should dress properly.
Please do not forget. Please have your parents check their school email to see what clothes you should wear.
Please express your gratitude for raising me this far. Always express your gratitude in a tangible way.
Every year, when the graduation ceremony ends and spring break begins, schools reflect on the past year, clean up, and prepare for the new school year. This year, there has been a particularly large increase in the number of students wishing to enroll, so the office has been adjusting schedules, and homeroom teachers have been busy securing desks, chairs, and teaching materials for the increased number of students, as well as adjusting timetables. However, it is a very happy time as the number of students and staff has increased. It was a very fulfilling time from the beginning to the end of spring break. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who cooperated with us during this time and to those who provided external cooperation. Please take a look at the classrooms, which have become so beautiful that it looks like no other. We look forward to welcoming you.
Principal's speech
Congratulations on graduating.
Following last week's junior high school graduation ceremony, today is the elementary school graduation ceremony.
This year, we had 13 graduates, the largest number in a long time.
To all of you, I would like to tell you some important words on this important milestone of graduation.
"Destiny lies in one's character"
Have you heard this before? These are the words of Ryunosuke Akutagawa.
What makes someone successful is not their talent, but their character.
A person's fate largely depends on his or her character and mindset.
It can be said that the hint of a person's happiness depends on how deeply they understand their own personality. However, although it seems like we know ourselves well, it actually takes a lot of experience and time to understand ourselves. You often repeat "No?" and "Why not?" over and over again. When this question comes up, it is an important moment for you to grow. Please continue to take good care of yourselves and keep a good mindset.
Compared to the six years of elementary school, the three years of junior high school go by in a flash. Three years later, students are faced with the choice of whether to get a job, go to higher education, or where to go. All four of this year's junior high school graduates chose different paths. But everyone's graduation speech was the same.
"I'm glad I went to AmerAsian School."
Everything that is important takes time and is difficult. Nothing can be done effortlessly and easily. And the more one puts into it, the more difficulties they encounter. That's why something that you have built with time and patience will not be easily destroyed. It will give you confidence and support you.
The next three years of junior high school will be a really important three years. I think everyone has their own thoughts. Just like your predecessors, please be patient and become strong enough to cross the river of patience. At that time, the wings of freedom will grow on your back. Just like today, please take off with a smile on your face.
I am looking forward to seeing you all again as you have grown a lot.

Principal Tsukasa Nakada
Please grow up slowly
We had a graduation ceremony. Every time I played with these kids, I thought, "That's true..." This is a ceremonial address that reflects this feeling.
Congratulations to all the kindergarteners and parents.
I worked as a junior high school teacher for 40 years. When I first came to Amerasian School and spent every day with the kindergarten children, I realized that it was really difficult. And I realized that it was a really important time. Seeing them lined up nervously in formal attire, I am reminded of Robert Fulghum's masterpiece, "All the wisdom I need for life was learned in the kindergarten sandbox."
I will introduce it here.
"I was taught all the things that humans really need to know about how to live, how to behave, and how to spend their days in kindergarten. The wisdom of life was not found at the top of the mountain called graduate school, but in the sandbox of Sunday school. What did I learn there?
Share everything with everyone.
Don't cheat.
Don't hit people.
Always return used items to their original place.
If you make a mess, clean up after yourself.
Don't touch other people's things.
If you hurt someone, say sorry.
Wash your hands before eating.
When you go to the toilet, flush it properly.
Freshly baked cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life. Every day, study a little, think a little, draw a little, sing, dance, play, and work a little.
Be sure to take a nap every day.
When you go out to the public, be careful of cars, hold hands, and make sure you don't get separated.
Cherish the feeling of wonder. Don't forget the little seeds you sowed in the Styrofoam cups. A seed sprouts, roots grow, and flowers grow. No one really knows why this happens.
Let's remember the first words we learned from a children's book featuring Dick and Jane. Words with meanings that are more important than anything else. 'Look' "
Robert Fulghum: "All the wisdom I need in life was learned in the kindergarten sandbox."
I have nothing to add. I think what is written here is exactly as it is.
Although it may seem like the children are just spending the day playing, they are actually learning a variety of things during their time at the kindergarten. We adults need to be reminded of this, and we want our children to learn the basics of being human.
Congratulations, I hope you become wonderful elementary school students.

AmerAsian School in Okinawa
Principal Tsukasa Nakada
We had the junior high school graduation ceremony. The students graduated from school on this day. This is the actual graduation ceremony of Amerasian School in Okinawa. There were four graduates, each of whom has followed a completely different path to this day in a different country's culture. They are now leaving the nest from the same place. The path ahead is also different for each person.
Looking back, this past year in particular was the most active year I've ever had. The four students have truly opened a wonderful new door for their juniors. On the day of their graduation, all four performed as a guitar ensemble. The songs were "Lord, Joy of Man's Desire" from Bach's "Cantata No. 147" and "Blue Bossa Nova," a light music piece. However, just before the graduation ceremony, K.Y. fell ill and had to take a week off, leaving only the other three students practicing. They were struggling with the continuous theme in 9/8 time until the end, and they still couldn't get it together. It's not something you can put together in one day. I was considering whether to cut the performance from the ceremony or to have them do it as a group of only the three of them. However, the four of them, including K.Y, showed up at the assembly hall together for the first time in a week, saying, "It's okay, it's perfect!" with their usual irresponsible cool faces...? I thought about a lot of things, but it wasn't a competition, so I decided to leave it to them and said, "Okay, do whatever you want." And the performance was just as everyone in the audience had heard.
I was so surprised, so moved that I cried! Why? When I asked later, every time the three students practiced that week, they sent the video to K.Y., and K.Y. practiced on his own at home. I was once again surprised by his unexpected efforts and ideas. However, it is a mystery as to how they were able to perform in such a way that was so harmonious and moved people. They were a mystery until the end...
Principal's speech
Congratulations on graduating.
This year's G9 members have spent a year leading up to this March thinking about their futures. You asked, "should I go to higher education or get a job?" All four of you chose to go on to higher education. To that end, you needed to know what kind of high schools are out there, what courses they offer, what sports they do, whether it's close to home, whether you can get there by bus, and what kind of exams are needed to get in. You looked up this information yourselves. In the end, you chose the high school you wanted to go to, not the high school you could go to. You valued learning classes and improved yourselves to the level of the school you wanted to attend. It was decided that each of you would go on to the high school of your choice. Your public schools also supported you.
The four of you are not graduating just because March 15th has arrived. You are graduating because you have done everything you were supposed to do at AASO. I think this mindset is very important. You can't do it alone. It's about creating that atmosphere with everyone in the class. If everyone is serious, there will always be people who will support you.
Dear graduates, from tomorrow onwards, you will proceed on your own path, each of which you have chosen for yourselves.
I believe that new challenges will appear in the future, but I hope that you will continue to grow and shine with the confidence that you have gained through overcoming these challenges.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all again as you've grown a lot.

Thank you to everyone on the student council. Until last year, everyone had a hard time at school due to the lack of fun events due to the coronavirus. But this year, all events have returned.
It was a fun year. Sports Day in June was held at the wonderful Sports Dome at Ginowan Citizens' Sports Park and was a very fun day. The school festival was also held at a community center with a stage. Everyone was wonderful.
It was a fun year with so many other things coming back, including Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Valentine's Day. The entire event was planned by the student council officers. The student council took the lead in preparing and cleaning up. There were many painful times, but I have fond memories.
Everyone from 4th grade onwards is part of the student council. Please cooperate with and support the student council president, vice president, and officers. Thank you.
Hello everyone, I'm N.M., the new student council president. This year, the student council planned many other events such as Sports Day, COMPOST, Halloween, School Festival, Christmas, Valentine's day, and many more. I had a lot of fun doing it. I would like to plan many more fun things next year. Thank you everyone for your cooperation. Let's make school fun.

I went around the classrooms and looked at the lessons. From kindergarteners who spend most of their day playing to junior high school students deciding on their future careers, you can clearly see what each grade should do and the process of growth. Every day at school is spent thinking about what one is good at, what one is bad at, one's own pace, the pace of others, learning, and helping each other. In recent years, the world was shut down due to COVID, IT has been introduced, and schools have changed significantly. But I think about it again. The most important thing to learn remains the same. It is: "Be honest and be humble."2024/02/22

I was thrilled when the first three babies were born, but the number of baby red-bellied newts continues to increase day by day, and I am no longer impressed but anxious. However, with the help of G3's Y.K, we were able to secure the daphnia safely. The number of baby newts is starting to increase. Phytoplankton, which is food for daphnia, is also starting to increase. 17 children have been raised! There may be more tomorrow.

The newt eggs are growing smoothly. Newt eggs have now appeared in science lessons about the start of life. The eggs in the aquarium have now completed cell division and have developed vertebrae, making them look like newts and can be clearly seen with the naked eye. Please enlarge the photo. It's the round thing in among the aquatic plants.
Gary, the axolotl next door, is also doing well. However, it is difficult to collect and reproduce raw daphnia, which are food for baby newts. Does anyone know about this? The birth of baby newts is imminent.
2024/02/02
"What is Setsubun?" This was a question from an A class student. Now that I think about it, what is it?
Everyone in JH immediately checked the answer using their Chromebooks.
'Setsubun is a day to drive out bad things with the meaning of "May everyone be healthy and happy." They throw beans and eat ehomaki while saying, "Oni is outside, good fortune is inside," which is a model demon of evil things.'
Then why today? Why are there demons? Are there really demons? Are we really chasing away demons even if they aren't there? Why can't the demons stay in the house? Why are beans thrown? Do you eat those beans? Why ehomaki? Do you eat it all at once?...??????
Why does it keep going on and on? Traditions have been created over a long period of time, and the reason they don't disappear is because there is something important about them...I want everyone to value their own reasons for doing so...I want them to look into it.
In the morning, when I was taking students' temperatures as usual, K.B's mother asked me, "My pet newt has laid eggs, but I don't know how to care for it. Would you like to keep it at school?" I've owned newts before, but I've never seen eggs. I was a little concerned about this, but the school's pet axolotl, Gary, has been well cared for and is growing well even when he gets sick. Shrimp taken from the river also grow while repeatedly shedding their skin. Baby newts will be fine, too. We all did a lot of research and decided to keep him. The eggs are interesting, but so is everyone looking into them.
This year, for the first time in a long time, we invited parents to attend the festival in person. Due to city training, we were unable to use Fukufuku, but with the cooperation of the Ginowan Neighborhood Association, we were able to rent a community center. The community center has a stage, and it's a great place to show off one's skills! Truly a hinoki stage! It was a wonderful festival with the theme of world culture, and participants ranging from pre-K to junior high. Here, I would like to once again introduce this year's theme, "Let's create a future full of smiles!", which was announced by the student council at the October 24th meeting. As the school year progresses, you can see how fulfilling the presentations are.
We will now begin our student assembly.
Today we are going to talk about the School Festival and Halloween.
First of all, Aiden and Ryan, please welcome to the School Festival.
Hello everyone, we are here to talk about the School Festival.
First of all, we have this year's theme. The theme for this year was chosen by the student council officers from among several candidates.
The theme for 2023 is "Let's build a future overflowing with smiles!"
There are many fun and wonderful things in the world, but there are also many tough and difficult things. We should not always leave such things to adults, but we should be actively involved for the sake of our own future.
"Let's create a future full of smiles!" is a theme that expresses these thoughts.
To this end, it is very important to know not only today and tomorrow, but also the history of the world up to yesterday. How have the people of the world nurtured and created their national cultures? Please work together to research and present your findings.
I think it is hard to discuss where to start at first in each class. What is culture first? I think it is a good place to start. For example, culture is the ideas and pleasures created by people. It can be songs, dances, stories, picture books, sports, cooking, housing, architecture, folk costumes, fishing, diving, or even research and inventions that make life more convenient. Cars, trains, airplanes, and everyone's favorite IT, related games, apps, and so on, are also things that only humans have in their culture.
What is important is that the process of getting there differs greatly from country to country. The way of doing things differs from country to country, and that is the most fascinating thing about culture.
Which country to choose, what to research, and how to present it? This year, we will be presenting in front of everyone at Fukufuku, including parents and guests. How they will present what they have researched, whether it is through song, dance, presentation, or drama, will be a part of each class' culture. The presentation will be on December 16. It will be soon. Please start preparing.
Finally, Secret Santa presents. Before opening the presents, Ms. Yumiko and Ms. Katherine spoke to the students.
"Now we're all going to open our presents. Maybe there's a gift inside that's different from what you wanted. But that may be because the gift you wanted was difficult to find, and your Secret Santa might have had to find something to replace it. It is a gift that they thought about for a long time and prepared for you. Your Secret Santa is watching the moment you open your gift. They are looking forward to seeing your happy face. Don't forget that. Seeing the Christmas tree warms my heart. It's because of your kindness and consideration. Please cherish it. Your Secret Santa wants to deliver that the most."
As introduced in the video, six junior high school students stood on the big stage this time. We continued to train for two months with the idea that we should go on stage with the mindset of "I've done everything I needed to do!" rather than thinking, "Well, this is enough." Practice was 2 hours every day after school, and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 12:00. The Saturday just before the last week, practice was 6 hours from 9:00 to 3:00. On the day before the tournament, practice was from 9:00 to 12:00. On the day of the tournament, final preparations were made at school from 8:00 am to 9:00 am before departure.
After completing these two months, what do the six members think now as they stand on the big stage of the national tournament? Lastly, I would like to introduce it. Please take a look at the photo taken next to the stage right after the performance. The smiles on their faces say it all. It's the best smile that only those who accomplish something have. But those were really tough days. This was the first time we had ever experienced a rehearsal with such an uncertain future. That's why we felt such a sense of accomplishment after finishing the performance.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the students. It was a great performance that cleansed my heart.
2年生 I.J
I wasn’t that nervous on stage. It was easy. The practicing part wasn’t that fun. I had to skip a week and a half of my basketball practice, but other than that it was pretty cool.
3年生 C.K
When we initially began practicing guitar after school with the principal, I found his practice very challenging. However, looking back now, I realize that the rigorous, painful routine benefited us in the end. Our time practicing was filled with struggles and it seemed overwhelmingly tough. Yet, through days of relentless and painstaking effort, we persevered. As the performance week neared, I felt nervous the day before. But when we reached the venue, I suddenly felt calm, and all my anxiety disappeared.
1年生 L.S
3年生 K.Y
1年生 L.S
I've posted two videos on the sidebar. One is a school introduction video by our school director Hamagami. This is a wonderful piece of work that covers everything from going to school to classes and introducing the school. The second video is a LIVE video of the 6-member JH guitar ensemble that participated in the 23rd National Junior High School Cultural Festival held at I'm Universe Tedako Hall on December 10th. This is a miraculous performance after two months of special training. There will also be interviews with CK and LS after the performance. Please look.
Every day, we are supported by many people. I want to embody that feeling, even if it's just for one day.
We received a happy card to express gratitude for our hospitality during the Thanksgiving Luncheon.
This is from everyone at Tell who is always cheerful and warms me up when I feel like the wind is catching my heart. A lovely card with a smile is included.
Masashi Sada - "Smile Enclosed"
"Let's be grateful for all the blessings that bless our lives. And let's express that gratitude by doing what we can."
That was my promise for Thanksgiving this year. A big turkey and lots of treats were brought in by each family. We also invited people who always support and cooperate with AASO, making it a fun and meaningful time.
After the fun was over, the student council officers who lead the school and the junior high school students who participated took action, and it was a moment when everyone's hearts could be seen.
November 22nd is the Thanksgiving Luncheon half day.
I will introduce the schedule for the day.
In the morning, we will have an assembly and think about what Thanksgiving is all about. After that, we will celebrate our November birthdays, and then we will go back to each class and think about Thanksgiving until the luncheon. Mr. Lowen is in charge. I have already received the script for his speech, and will introduce it here.
Good morning!
So, what is Thanksgiving? Well, it is a time for all of us to enjoy the excellent food that is before us and, more importantly, to enjoy the company of our family and friends. We celebrate Thanksgiving because we are thankful for all of the blessings that grace our lives. Take some time today to thank those who are in your lives. Your teachers, your friends and classmates, your family members. Tell them how thankful you are that they are a part of your lives. Happy Thanksgiving!
Dear Student Council Officers
Tomorrow, after Thanksgiving, the student council will wash the dishes lent to the guests.
Sports Day, Halloween, Science Fair, and Thanksgiving
Food, Rooftop maintenance, etc., and those who always support us are invited to Thanksgiving. Let us give back to our guests in the form of our gratitude.
It will be cold, but please be prepared to bring a shirt that the sleeves can be rolled up to wash dishes.
Let's be thankful for all the blessings that bless our lives. And let's give form to that feeling of gratitude. With what you can do.
Another report last week was about Halloween plans. The main topic of discussion among student council officers the day before was about games and watching a movie. As for movie viewing, we quickly decided not to do it this year. It would be a waste of time to watch Halloween movies. We all agreed that we wanted to spend more time playing together. I was surprised. This is because we are basing our discussion on last year's experience. At AASO, we tend to insist on self-assertion without listening to the opinions of others, so it was really powerful to see everyone looking back on what had gone wrong in the past and discussing areas for improvement. Since we don't have to watch a movie, the student council has more things to do. The heated discussion continued, not about what we wanted to do, but how we could make it fun for everyone. There were times when I got frustrated because the answers didn't come out. I have attached the script of MG and LY's speech on this day.
Thank you Aiden and Ryan about the School Festival.
Next, about Halloween, please give my best regards to Minami and Leila.
Hello I just wanted to let you know what we have planned for this year regarding Halloween.
First of all, the big difference this year is that there will be no movie watching at Fukufuku. Until last year, we had separate games and movies for the lower grades and the upper grades. But this year, the student council planned this event because we wanted everyone to have as much fun together as possible.
The following is a description of the day's activities.
First, we will all gather at this location at 8:30. After an explanation from the student council, each class will take a commemorative photo. During the photo shoot, we will also prepare for the games.
The games will begin at 9:00. Program #1, the first game, will be played by the lower grades A-G4, and then by the upper grades G5-G9.
We all start together with program number 2. The first one is the ball toss, which we did on Sports Day. The same teams as in the Sports Day will be divided into red, yellow, and blue teams for three rounds. The number of balls that enter the basket is added up to determine the ranking.
The third program is the jump rope. This is a team of five. The winning team will jump three times, and the sum of the jumps will determine their ranking. The winning team will receive a prize. Please create your own team and sign up now!

After that, please go back to your classrooms and rest until 12:00. Then at 12:00, you will have 15 minutes to clean up afterwards. The next day is school. Please make sure that everything related to Halloween is put away and ready for class.
"You can't fly without a bar." This phrase compares the importance of achieving a goal to a high jump. Many events have been canceled due to the influence of the coronavirus, but this year school has started to operate as usual. At last week's student assembly, the theme for the school festival to be held in December was announced. It's been a long time since we've held a face-to-face event. The theme is "Let's create a future full of smiles!" This is an initiative to investigate various cultures around the world, understand different cultures, and utilize them for a new future. I think this is a wonderful theme and practice that is common to all of us today, not only at AASO but also around the world, not only for children but also for adults. Both AY and RK introduced and gave detailed explanations about the theme. I think it may be difficult for younger students, but if you read it together with your family, I think the goals of the school festival will become clearer. Knowing a little about something and not knowing anything at all will make a big difference in the foundation of learning and the sense of accomplishment of the event.
Starting this past April, the 7th hour of every Tuesday has been designated as visual copying time. Visual copying means copying the original text exactly as is. However, the effect will vary depending on how you transcribe it. The goal is to "transcribe sentence by sentence". This is because it is difficult to understand the meaning of the entire sentence while writing it one letter or one word at a time. However, some of the children at AASO are just starting to learn Japanese and kanji in earnest for the first time, and are not yet familiar with using them as written characters. It's a process that requires more patience than you might imagine.
There are two types of visual copying forms, which you can choose according to your level. The number of characters is 377 and 603 characters. The students copy it onto manuscript paper every week. When we first started, everyone was constantly asking me questions such as, "Why are we doing this?" and "Everyone says they don't want to do this". However, now I can see students seriously facing this issue on their own with just a pencil. I would like to introduce how children are currently working on visual copying. What you gain from this work is not just the power of letters. I think that the measuring stick of the heart will also grow.
On October 15th, a "Marche Samakita" festival was held with the headline concept, and a portion of the sales were donated to AASO. This was made possible because Ms. Minako Yogi, a staff member at our school, was the event organizer. They also arranged for the guitar club to appear and perform at the event.
This year's goal for the students was to actively participate not only in AASO but also in activities outside of school. Through culture and sports, we get to know external organizations and get to know ourselves while getting involved with the local community and the school we are enrolled in. We are moving forward little by little. Nothing will start if you don't move.
I told them that everyone at JH is working to improve the school, led by the student council. Friday meetings have been based on weekly practice and reflection. Every time we repeat this, we see steady improvement in the school, which is very reassuring. Under such circumstances, a surprising incident occurred where elementary school students planned their own event. The G3 students suddenly came to the office during school hours and asked, "Principal, I want to do something like this. Is it okay?" They submitted a proposal they had created called "Bacchanko Tournament." Of course, I agreed, and decided to invite the entire school as well. They prepared the Japanese and English versions of the script for their presentation at the weekly assembly, had their homeroom teacher correct it, and made a grand presentation at the meeting on October 6th. Below is a look at the exciting tournament.

Suddenly there was a lot of commotion at the entrance, and when I went to see what was going on, it turned out that Ms. Honma, who was in charge of science at AASO until March of this year, was visiting for the first time in six months. Everyone was surprised by the sudden visit! What a great joy! I remember an intense class in which students who didn't understand Japanese well were rushing at us in their Osaka dialect, saying, "Honai Ikude~!" Ms. Honma left, promising to meet again next time. After a while, a letter arrived from Hokkaido.

Student council specialist committees were formed this year, and each committee continues to carry out activities that contribute to the school. It might be better to say that this is my first year and I'm just trying to figure out what to do (I don't yet know what to do). Meanwhile, student council officers who are working on the school's garbage problem have begun holding student council meetings every Friday. On September 8th, the participants were given a detailed explanation of the overall activity, mainly explaining how to separate food waste and how to take home plastic bottles and empty cans. On September 15th, we reconfirmed that the classroom trash bins were not yet thoroughly cleaned. By incorporating role play, the explanations were fun and easy to understand for kindergarten and elementary school students. The event was canceled on September 22nd due to the rapid spread of influenza. On September 29th, we named the trash cans so that even A class students could easily understand them. The large black box next to the toilet is the Mother Box, the one for each class is the Child Box, and the office paper recycling box is the Paper Box.
Meetings are held weekly. This week, G3 will also be announcing the recruitment of contestants for their own project, a "Speed Tournament". If you are picking up your students, please come a little early and take a look. We are growing every day.
2023/10/04
The tournament headlined on September 23rd was held at the Prefectural Athletics Stadium in Awase, Okinawa City. Previously, AASO's C.K participated in the Nakagami district tournament in June as a member of Kakazu Junior High School's basketball team. After that, he practiced with the same school's track and field team during summer vacation, and this time, he participated in the Kakazu Junior High School common men's 4x100m relay as the anchor.
Aika-sensei recorded C.K.'s run in the final competition of the one-day program. I want everyone to take a good look.
If you are serious, there will always be people who will support you.

Today's snack was pears. This item was purchased using the AASO Children's Health Promotion Fund received from the Naha Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Business Cooperative. Last time, we had watermelon. Ahead of today's snack time, the office staff visited several fruit and vegetable stores and bought good-quality produce. Early this morning, they peeled, cored, and cut the fruit for all the students and staff, and delivered it to everyone at 10:10 AM. At this small school, everyone can eat fresh fruit between classes. I think that's really amazing.
2023/09/18
Normally, I would end this by saying, "Don't forget to express your gratitude," but...
Today was different. Cleaning up the plastic that the pear was in. And what to do with the skin, core, and garbage after processing the pears...
This is the state after snack time. The trash can is in the middle, and until now, everything was thrown into this trash can.
Let me introduce our new system.
First is the blue bucket on the left.
During the busy early morning hours, the office staff collected the food waste into compost buckets. This will be returned to the soil by the Lifestyle Committee using rice bran lactic acid bacteria.
These are the containers in which pears were served to everyone. Last Friday, during a school assembly, students were asked to make similar plastic containers, such as lunch boxes or pudding, smaller by stacking them together or by crushing them. This is so they take up less space in the garbage. Today, everyone's plastic pear containers, from class A to JH, were lined up and stacked like this. During snack time, JH and the student council went around and called out to each class, and the homeroom teacher called out to the students in the class. And everyone did the same thing.
And this is a big trash can. That's all. The juice packs are also carefully crushed one by one.
It's only been two weeks since the student council officers called for the garbage to be sorted. Everyone started working together.
I thought about it today (everyone told me).
Working together means that each person is doing their best. People often say things like, "Everyone says they don't like it," or "Everyone won't do it," but there is no such person in the world as "everyone." There's only you and me, me and you.
Feelings of gratitude are important. But what's more important is to express "thank you". This photo will look like "thank you".
This is an introduction for your reference.
These are the notes from last week's student council meeting. We are getting stronger.
There was a student assembly on September 8th. This is an initiative the student council has been working on since April to turn school trash into resources. This all started when the school ended up using 100 garbage bags in one week in April. The student council officers analyzed the types of garbage produced by the school every Thursday and created measures to deal with it. Below, I will post the scenario of the meeting that day. This practice requires the cooperation of parents. From now on, we will properly separate paper, food scraps, bento boxes, and other items that were all put in the trash together. Please bring a water bottle instead of a plastic bottle. Sweets such as canned juice are prohibited. Thank you for your cooperation.

2023 Student Council SDGs Toward Our Future
Completely Separate School Waste Return Food Waste to the Soil
We, the student council, have been discussing a lot of things in April with the goal of reducing the amount of trash at our school.
So we investigated what kind of things are in the school's garbage bins. Today I will explain the results and our future plans.
First of all, school garbage bin can be divided into the following 6 categories.
Paper 2. Metal 3. PET bottles 4. Vinyl and plastic 5. Tissues 6. Food scraps
If we placed everything in the same garbage bin, they are just garbage. Everything except metal becomes burnable trash.
I will explain how to separate these six types of garbage.
First, the paper. Paper is separated from cardboard and all of it will be recycled. Each class will collect the papers which you don't need. Place them in the collection box in the office during cleaning time. Please stretch each sheet neatly. Do not crumple them up.
Next is the metal. About large metals, please ask William, the chair of the Environmental Improvement Committee. Please take the empty cans home with you after drinking. This is the same as plastic bottles. Please take them back home after you finish your drink. Therefore, I would recommend bringing water bottles for your drink.
Next, please put plastic, candy wrappers, etc. in the garbage bin. However, if you have leftover food, please take this back home as is. Please bring snacks just for yourself.
Next, tissue paper. Please put used tissues into the large trash can next to the restroom. Please use wiping cloths when possible instead.
Lastly, food scraps. You should eat all of your lunch. However, if you can't eat it all, the student council will make compost with the scraps.
From A class to G3, MG will take this blue bucket each class after lunch, and from G4 and up, RK will put this red bucket next to the bathroom. However, it is the best if you can eat all of your lunch.
If you leave food scraps as is, they will be rotten and attract flies. We will dig a hole, mix lactic acid and rice bran in it, and swell it to make a rich compost. Then we will plant bananas, papayas, tangerines, dragon fruits, etc., which we will eat in the future.
We will start this project next Monday. I know there will be a lot of challenges at first, but if each one of us does our best, it will not be difficult. We, JH and the student council will take the lead. Elementary school students, please consult with your teachers to make sure this project is a success.
We collect unnecessary paper without making it dirty or crumpling it.
Please take your own plastic bottles and empty cans with you. A water bottle is recommended
Lactic acid bacteria for food waste fermentation
Rice bran as food for lactic acid bacteria
Rice bran lactic acid bacteria are alive and well on the 3rd day
Put the collected garbage in
Mix rice bran lactic acid bacteria with food waste
Return the soil and finish the first time
The second semester has begun. I am very happy that we were all able to go to school together during the long summer vacation without any major accidents. This year's summer school was difficult due to the typhoon, but we all worked together and made wonderful memories. The second semester is the longest of the three semesters. The last day is December 22nd.
Please set goals for yourself on how you want to celebrate December 22nd and what you will be able to do.
Your goals will create your day. I am looking forward to it.
Let's do our best!
Summer school was interrupted by a stray typhoon, and the schedule was affected by a series of frequent changes. It was difficult, but each day the 60 students and 20 staff worked to make the best of the situation.
The photo on the left is a group photo of the Araha Beach BBQ tournament, which was postponed to the last day of summer school due to Typhoon No. 6. Everyone looks like they're done with summer.
Before we knew it, the second semester had started. Everyone's summer was tough, so it was fun! Below is a photo gallery of memories.
*Since there is a lot of content, it will be posted in several parts.

Talking about our countries from our own experiences
"The teacher is cool!"
And to everyone's surprise
It was a really fulfilling and fun time. In addition to our school staff, there were 14 guest speakers, all of whom were volunteers. It was a three-week period in which I felt first-class love, depth of passion, and the feeling of being supported by it. There were 20 external students, the largest number of external students to date. After handing out their certificates of completion at Araha Beach and dismissal, some students returned to school together. This is a conversation we had on the way back to school: "It was fun." "Well, Okinawa and the summer school were more fun than I expected. I'm a 9th grade student and have already graduated, but if I have a chance, I'll come back to Okinawa. Everyone was fun, interesting, and kind."
Thank you to everyone who supported us, the clear blue skies, the blue sea, and the delicious BBQ!
Hoping to see you again next year!
2023 AmerAsian School in Okinawa Summer School...End
Experience2023/07/24
The first semester has ended successfully and the 2023 summer school has started. The photo shows the opening ceremony. This year, a total of 60 people, 38 current students and 22 external students, are participating. Astronomers, musicians, scientists, university dance circles, and many other people will come to teach our students. The real thing, the encounter with the first class begins.
Once a week, you can enjoy multicultural exchanges and practices such as Nagashi Somen, barbecue on the beach, and summer festivals!

As a national policy, the response to COVID-19 has changed since May, and we are returning to the way we were before COVID-19. The school also considered what to do with wearing masks and temperature measurement in the future. As a result, wearing a mask returned to the conventional interpretation, and it was decided that people can choose to wear masks according to their own physical condition. We have decided to continue the temperature measurement in the morning when we go to school because of the importance of individual physical condition management. If you continue to measure the temperature of each person at the entrance every morning, you will notice that each person's body temperature is slightly different.
After taking the temperature, when asked, "What do you think it is?", there are various answers.
〇 "36,5!" "Oh, perfect!"
〇"37, 1" "Oh, it's amazing! But it's a bit high" "No, it's always about this"
〇 "About 30...?" "Isn't that a bit too low? Yes, 36.6" "How much was it yesterday?"
"I know my body temperature every day when I go to school." Know your normal temperature. With the coronavirus still in motion, do you know when your low-grade fever is, is it time to rest now, or is it time to go to the hospital? I think it is important to be able to provide accurate information about yourself to your doctor. I want you to ask your child when he comes home from school every day.
"What was it this morning?"
On June 7th, a special assembly was held to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of AmerAsian School in Okinawa. Beginning with the principal's greeting, we had speeches representing each grade.
2023/07/03
Good morning to all students and visitors.
Although the typhoon pushed it to today, June 1st is the founding anniversary and birthday of our school, AmerAsian School in Okinawa. The school will be 25 years old this year.
I have something to say about my birthday.
“The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you found out why you were born,” said author Mark Twain. I was born on June 1st. Why was this school created? Today is the day to find out.
After this, your school representatives will greet you. While looking back on his greetings and his school life, please think about the reason why the AmerAsian School was born.
I am grateful for the miracle that I met here.
Mr. Tsukasa Nakada, Principal
Today is a special day to celebrate the 25th founding anniversary of the AmerAsian School. Heartiest congratulations. Do you know why this school was created? It's because we, AmerAsian children of American and Asian parents, learn two languages, English and Japanese, and various cultures. Now, representatives of various school years will give speeches. Listen carefully to what AASO has been up to now and where it is headed in the future.
Thank you.
Student council

Vice Chairman HY
Every day is an adventure at AmerAsian school.Sometimes we make models of the earth to learn about science. And some days we practice our kanji.Other times we play in the park for PE or get to ride the city bus to Round 1.No matter what we are doing or learning about, my favorite part of school is spending time with my friends. One of my fondest memories at AmerAsian school is when Miss Katherine’s husband, Dr. Mansfield, visited our school and taught us about dinosaurs. We learned what Dinosaurs ate, what kind of teeth they had and how they camouflaged themselves. I would like to be a paleontologist when I grow up.Dr. Mansfield’s class inspired me to study hard. One day I want to become a real dinosaur expert.I want to teach people the difference between a micro-pachycephalosaurs and a Triceratops.
Thank you. G2 HN
Fun things English
Hi Everyone,my name is JH. I joined the school last year and i am in second grade now. The most fun at school I had with birthday parties, the Halloween party and Christmas party. We did many games, we had nice food and sweets. We also got presents. Playing with my classmates and other kids is also lots of fun at school.
G2 JH
This year, AmerAsian School celebrated its 25th anniversary.
I have been going to AmerAsian School since I was in the first grade.
I went to Amerasian School and made a lot of friends.
At Amerasian School, everyone is friendly and you can easily make friends.
When I am at AmerAsian School, I feel calm because there are people who are half like me.
I have many fond memories of this school.
I think everyone has many memories other than mine, such as going to the park together, playing during breaks, and decorating for Halloween and Christmas.
Apart from the fun things, there were also hard times.
When I was in the first grade, I was good at English and didn't understand Japanese very well.
But after spending time at the AmerAsian School, I came to understand Japanese better.
Now I also like reading Japanese books.
I plan to continue studying English at Amerasian School and take the Eiken.
Now that I've come to understand both, I'm really glad I'm AmerAsian.
Everyone, please live your life thinking that you are a student of AmerAsian School and that you are half.
And let's evolve the AmerAsian School more and more.
G6 JY
This is my 9th year at AmerAsian School. I like AASO because I’ve met lots of people from other places who speak other languages. For example, Niina and Kazuto are from Germany, and we have had teachers from countries like Singapore, South Africa, Australia, Canada, the Philippines, and so on.
My goal for the future is to be a game designer, mostly Pokemon. I hope to help with translating Pokemon names. My skills in English might also help with other Pokemon things, like movies.
What I hope for the school’s future is for the school to be as big as a public school, and have more students and teachers. With more students, there can be more clubs, and with more teachers, students can be more supported.
Thank you for listening.

Welcome, teacher!
~The start of Sports Day~
2023/06/22
Good news! The long-awaited teacher has arrived.
There was a short morning assembly that everyone attended. It started with an introduction by Ms. Katherine, and was followed by the teacher's greeting.
“Hello everyone, I am R. I am very happy and excited to be able to work with you as an AASO teacher. Feel free to talk to me anytime. Thank you in advance."
It was a short and very understandable greeting. After that, HY gave a welcome greeting on behalf of the students.
"Welcome to Amerasian School, Ms. Rajani. We are looking forward to spending our school time together. And let's do our best on the upcoming sports day that we have this Sunday."
The time we cherished together
Everyone's school
We will transform it into a special school.
Cherish your encounter.
What really matters
~To the child who notices~
2023/06/20
When you enter from the entrance of Mebuki Hall, the first encounter is the shrubbery under the stairs. Who is the face of the school? When asked, it is often said that it is the principal, but this is not correct. The first person you talk to on the phone, the first person you meet, the first place you see, is the face of the school. AASO's impression starts there. We are planting and pruning plants in this precious place in time for summer school. However...
Several plants are broken every day. There are traces of being hit by a ball, footprints of shoes that were stepped on when trying to get into the garden to catch a ball, etc.
I hear some people say, "You can't play with it because you plant it. Why don't you just not plant anything there? It's all forbidden these days." Is that so? When you go out in the city, you will find many places that say, "Please don't do ______ here."
But, often there is no sign for this.
That's why I want you all to be able to notice yourselves without being told by others.
I want you to know that the little things you notice and persevere in every day at school will become a very big and important power when you go out into the world.
This year's Sports Day will be held at the Ginowan Municipal Multipurpose Sports Ground. It is an all-weather facility and is used by the DeNA Yokohama Bay Stars professional baseball team. To use such a facility naturally comes with a promise. I was surprised to hear that promise.
Clean up properly, don't handle tools roughly, don't eat or drink except in designated areas, don't run, be on time, etc., just like in school. We can rent this dome because we can follow the rules of the school on a daily basis. Build up small patience and awareness.
When the rain falls from the sky
~Umbrella flowers blooming at the entrance~
2023/06/14
I thought it would end with the rainy season, but it's raining heavily.
Umbrella flowers that bloom in front of the entrance are dried before being placed in an umbrella stand. You won't notice that if it's just one, but you can see that the design and safety have been devised in various ways. The umbrella made with care for you. Please don't forget to take it home with you.
After school in the rain, it was dark and the students were kind of excited for some reason.
I hope that it will be quiet until parents come to pick their kids up.

The aquariums in front of G class, the wooden bookshelves, were all renewed during the spring break. Gary, the axolotl that everyone loves, seems to be happy to move to his new house. By the way, do you know that there is a big basket under Gary's tank?

~ Bulletin boards and postings ~
2023/06/09
When you enter the entrance area, it feels like something is missing. Some posters are taped on the wall directly. Each committee has started making posters, but there is no place to put them up...We decided to make bulletin boards. This is no one's job. But when I started making it, everyone gathered to help me, which made me very happy. It's a good feeling that it finished earlier than planned and the posting activity will start soon.
It's your turn! KAKAZU's number 13!
At the Junior High School basketball tournament
~Kakazu Junior High school's basketball team~
2023/06/07
Last week, I talked about the fantastic performance of the Guitar Club at OIST. This time, I will tell you about the Nakagami District Basketball Tournament hosted by the Okinawa Prefectural Junior High School Athletic Federation. One of our students, CK, joined the basketball club of Kakazu Junior High School with the understanding of Kakazu Junior High School staff, where he is enrolled, since last December. The school, the gymnasium, the students, the teachers, everything was new to CK, and he started going to club activities all by himself. Thanks to the kindness of the club members, he ran every day after school to go to Kakazu Junior High School. After a while, he started playing basketball with his teammates at the basketball court in the park on his days off. The last tournament was on June 4th, which was the last game his teammates will play all together. The venue was the gymnasium of Kadena Junior High School, and the opponent was Okinawa Higashi Junior High School. The match progressed at Kakazu's pace from the beginning and they won the first match with a score of 61 to 42! In the second game against Kitanakagusuku Junior High School, his team lost with a score of 24-66, but CK kept chasing the ball with all his strength until the end of the game. He was like a different person on the basketball court from how he was at school.
He had only 6 months of club activities, but it was a very important and fulfilling time to build a team together. "I want to do it again, I want to continue more", these feelings open a new door for tomorrow. Thank you to all the parents, teachers and students who came to cheer him on at the game on Sunday. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Principal Mr. Tamaki and everyone at Kakazu Junior High School for welcoming CK.
May Showers: Art, Music and Dance Event
~Impressive Stage by AASO Guitar Club ~
2023/05/30
On Saturday, May 27th, The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) held a comprehensive cultural festival of art, music and dance called "May Showers". Mr. Travis, who works at OIST, gave the students a great opportunity to perform. This year's slogan at our school is to "engage beyond school."
It was a big stage for the students who usually don't have many opportunities to make presentations or performances, but everyone was very calm and did very well, receiving great feedback from the audience. We will arrive at impression by being consistent, practicing correctly, and piling up small things.
Thank you to all the parents and guardians who supported students on the day of the event.
Tension, Excitement, accomplishment. Repeating this process to become stronger.
Smile is the best way to be kind to others. You need me, I need you too.
~Words that everyone should keep in mind~
2023/05/25
I set a school motto. It tells the students the direction everyone should go. In particular, we have students and teachers at the school from all over the world, different environments and different cultures come together in this school.
However, even if our backgrounds are different, what we seek as people is basically the same.
I posted the school motto on the bulletin board at the entrance. Please check it. The calligraphy is by Masae Shinjo, and the decorations by Mrs. Okuno, a parent.
Potatoes arrived from Okinoerabu Island
~Hayashi's seasonal Potatoes 2023~
2023/05/23
Seasonal potatoes have arrived from Okinoerabu Island. They were donated by Mr. Shinya Hayashi and Mrs. Kaori who are friends of Ms. Kondo, our office manager. They run a potato farm in Okinoerabu Island. We wanted everyone to know the taste of freshly harvested potatoes, so we cooked french fries for the student's snack time in the Fukufuku kitchen. We started cooking at 9:00 and made it in time for the long recess at 10:00. At first, we thought we had more than enough, but everyone ate it all at once!! It was delicious! Everybody was so happy!
"Thank you, Mr/Mrs. Hayashi. We are entering typhoon season. Let's get through it together!!"
Let's change the school by ourselves
~Student council in action~
2023/05/18
Students started student council activities every Thursday from 14:40 to 15:10. During the first meeting, we explained what student council is.
“The student council is an organization in which all the students come together to plan daily activities and events and make the school a lively and bright place by themselves.
"Schools can't run well with only teachers. We need your help. Power and energy are born only when everyone moves positively. There are many events, so let's exchange ideas. To that end, it is important to carefully accumulate small daily activities. We will split daily activities between students in G4-G9. That's the student committee. There are eight committees: Life Committee, Library Committee, Environment beautification Committee, Public relations Committee, Health Committee, Arts and culture Committee, Food education Committee, and Physical Education Committee. Please make a plan for the whole school year in each of your committees.”
This is how the student committees started. The second session for each committee is to confirm their roles and discuss annual plans. The children's practice of making their own school has begun.
To be thorough ~The beauty of being serious~
2023/05/16
The students' skill level of cleaning in the men's restroom has gotten better. They have been scraping off the urinary salts stuck to the urinal strainer. A stone stuck like a stalactite in a cave in 25 years is not so easy to remove. It also had a pungent odor. It didn't budge with a scrubbing brush, and even a scraper didn't work very well. Every day during cleaning time, a blacksmith-like sound echoes from the back of the men's restroom. When I first explained how to do it, the JH boys were making a big fuss with "Oh! No! No! No! ". They are now working almost silently. Every day, the inside of the restroom has changed to a refreshing feeling. This photo conveys the splendor and beauty of being serious and thorough, and the importance of continuing. Elementary school students who are still little kids now will grow up watching wonderful seniors.
2023/04/28 It's been a really long time since we've had a birthday party. A new school year has begun. We had a birthday party for the students born in April. The student council did all the planning and proceedings. The present was everyone singing the birthday song and a birthday card. We will introduce the birthday card:
"Happy birthday. There are people who keep sending messages and book cards like this to all the students. The cards are handwritten. In this way, the message for each person is different. It's a beautiful and heartfelt message. Also, a gift certificate to buy books is given."
I will introduce the letter from the group.
"Congratulations to everyone at the school, teachers, and families on the AmerAsian school's 25th anniversary. I feel a strange bond that our relationship, which started in the spring of 1998, has grown for this long. Since the school was in Ooyama, the development of the school and the students, it is amazing to see how wonderfully they have grown. We also dream of sending out a message of world peace and equality towards the 30th anniversary, and we hope that we will continue to send birthday cards.
