Pre-requisite: Construction Technology I
Construction Technology II is a concentrator course in the Construction Technology Program of Study: Residential and Commercial Construction. This course teaches beginning and intermediate carpentry skills. Students will learn personal and work-site safety as practiced in the construction and engineering industries. In addition, students will study building construction including site preparation, forming, framing, interior and exterior finishes, mechanical and electrical systems and advanced techniques in cabinet making. The fundamentals of carpentry will be covered giving students the chance to practice both structural and finish carpentry alone and in cooperative groups. Students will learn the systems and skills required in the residential and commercial construction industry including reading construction drawings, estimating, framing, roofing, installing windows/doors and trim and electrical with an emphasis on safety. This is a working class where students will design, plan and build a variety of model buildings and actual residential structures and other entry-level construction projects. In addition, this class will introduce students to the post-secondary opportunities that exist in the building trades, including 2 and 4-year colleges, universities, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, and entry level positions in the private and public sector. This course is UC/CSU a-g approved (g).
