Construction Technology I is an introductory course in the Construction Technology Program of Study: Residential and Commercial Construction. Students will learn tool and equipment safety and operation through hands-on activities and construction projects. Students must successfully complete a safety test. In addition, students will study wood identification, construction materials, assembly processes, and finishing techniques. Students will learn the basic skills required in the residential and commercial construction industry including measurement, reading blueprints and plans, proper and safe use of hand tools and powered equipment and machines, use of adhesives, fasteners and finishing products. This is a working class where students will design, build and assess entry-level wood/construction projects. In addition, this class will introduce students to the post-secondary opportunities that exist in the building trades, including 2 and 4-year colleges, universities, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, and entry level positions in the private and public sector. This course is UC/CSU a-g approved (g).
