So you're working at the Lair... What now?
This site is meant to help you navigate the Onboarding process. Onboarding is relevant to Rookies and Vets! It is the process during which we'll send you important documents to sign, collect information from you, provide you with helpful information, and basically get everything set up so you can arrive in camp and hit the ground running. Below are some frequently asked questions that should help you out. Feel free to reach out via email if you can't find what you're looking for or think we should add something here (lair.payroll@alumni.berkeley.edu).
Go BEARS!
Q) I haven't received anything from the Lair about fingerprinting. When, where, how do I get this done?
A) You will receive an email from UCB's onboarding team about your UC Berkeley Background check and fingerprinting. There will be online forms (emailed by UC Onboarding) through Biometrics4ALL, Inc. and you will make a in-person fingerprinting appointment at an authorized location.
Q) I took Sexual Harassment Prevention Training in 2025. Do I need to take it again this year?
A) Yes, you will need to take it every year.
Q) What do I do if I want my family or friends to visit (and use my 55% discount)?
A) Login to your online Lair account (to set up an online account, see Your Online Lair Account tab on this site) and go to Other Reservations in the left hand menu. You will add your guests to your account and book them in an available tent for the days you would like them to stay. Guests are not allowed to stay in your tent or the Staff Area. (Guests who use their own Lair accounts will not be able to use your staff discount.)
Q) What if I need to take a specific day off?
A) Before you arrive at camp, communicate directly with your Camp Manager about your request and ask for approval.
If you need to take a 48 hour window of time off that doesn't align with your typical weekly day off schedule for special events like weddings, graduations, or family events. There's a little wiggle room on the departure time or return time to be able to stretch the 48 hours a little without changing your pay. However, this must be requested as in advance as possible and will need to be approved by your manager and PD so that they can figure out what coverages would be needed and what our camper counts and such would be for the specific time you’re hoping to go. Only one such exception will be made each summer.
Q) Which trainings will CAA reimburse me for?
A) You will be reimbursed for Food Handlers and Food Managers certifications. Submit your receipt in the upload section on the onboarding task in BambooHR . The reimbursed amount will be added to your paycheck.
Q) What will happen if I arrive at the Lair before I've completed all my trainings?
A) If you arrive at camp without having completed your trainings or other onboarding steps you will need to hang out with our People & Culture team at the Blue Office, or with someone from our management team until you have completed all necessary steps.
Q) My Family or Friends want to mail me something while I'm at Camp, where should they send it to?
