Mrs. Carpenter

Welcome to kindergarten online! Check my page each day to find the lessons and activities that have been planned for your kindergartner.

  • Click on the date and there will be a drop down menu of assignments. Each day there will be several videos to watch and participate in. To access the videos, just click on the underlined words, and then again to take you to the site.

  • Writing assignments may be completed on any paper you have at home or in the journals. Have your child choose a journal entry to send to me once per week. Send a photo of the assignment to my email: jolenecarpenter@alpinedistrict.org.

  • We will continue to have a weekly homework paper which has been included in the student packet. Please take a photo of the completed homework paper and send it to my email on Mondays.

  • Links for Lexia, RazKids, and Jack Hartmann Videos (and other videos) as well as the Monthly Tasks are on the kindergarten home page. The videos are intended for skills practice.

  • On Fridays, there will be a parent survey at the end of the list of assignments. Good luck and have fun!

THIS WEDNESDAY come to the school between 10 am and noon to say goodbye to kindergarten, Mrs. Carpenter and Mrs. Cathemer. We have a bag of fun things for you to pick up! Come to the kindergarten doors on the west side of the building. See you there!

Due to the response by parents on last Friday's parent survey, I will continue to post videos, stories and other activities through May 19. Participation is optional! Please feel free to use Lexia and RazKids as we move into summer. These programs should be available through June 30 and will benefit your child's reading skills! I will continue to send information by email through the end of the year.

Watch the video to see what I found on my hike yesterday!

April 22, 2020

We have some new little friends! Here are five caterpillars for us to watch grow. They are tiny right now, but they will eat and eat and become bigger. What will happen next?

April 27, 2020

The caterpillars are much bigger now! They have molted! This means that they have shed their outer layer as a new, bigger exoskeleton has grown. They have made webs around themselves for protection.

April 28, 2020

Our five caterpillars are messy little guys! Their jar is full of webs and caterpillar poop! They are growing bigger every day. They look like they will molt again very soon.

April 30, 2020

Today I noticed something different in our caterpillar jar. All five caterpillars climbed to the top of the cup!

May 1, 2020

The caterpillars have attached themselves to the lid of the cup. As they hang down in a "j" shape, they molt for the last time, revealing a soft chrysalis underneath. Do you see the chrysalis? The others haven't molted yet. One of the caterpillars molted and his chrysalis fell to the bottom of the jar. I'm not sure if he will survive.

May 2, 2020

Mrs. Baca took an amazing video yesterday of one of her caterpillars molting for the last time. It is so interesting to watch! Thank you, Mrs. Baca, for sharing!

Click HERE to see the video.

All of our caterpillars are now chrysalides. They are changing into new creatures inside! This is called METAMORPHOSIS.

May 6, 2020

The chrysalides have had time to harden. Today I removed the lid and put our chrysalides in their new home. They will stay here until they complete their metamorphosis and become butterflies. One chrysalis tried to scare me away by wiggling around. He didn't want to be moved! Watch the video!

May 8, 2020

We are still waiting for our butterflies to hatch. It can take up to two weeks to make the change from a caterpillar to a butterfly. Sometimes it is hard to be patient!

May 11, 2020

Two butterflies emerged! When they first hatch, their wings are wet. They won't be able to fly until they dry. I will mix up some sugar water and give them fresh flowers and fruit until we can let them fly free, probably on Wednesday!

It was so much fun to see you at our Zoom show-and-tell!

Thank you for sharing your "Star of the Week" poster with us, Alina! It looks beautiful!

Here is a photo slide show of our friends! Click on the photos to see what we are doing at home.
