April Lesson 1st-6th Grade:

Self-Motivation and Goal Setting

We've reached our last lesson of the year! How time flies!

I've picked this lesson as a way of kids to set goals for something they want to accomplish this summer or maybe by the time school ends. Summer is a great time for students to go out and explore by finding new ways to push themselves. We talk about how self-motivation is a driving force that pushes us to do something. That can either be that we want to do better or sometimes that can be by receiving some reward through it.

We talk about SMART goal planning and how our goals need to be realistic and accomplishable. Kids do anything they set their minds to. Goals can be tough so I reviewed what a growth mindset looks like and how the more we practice, the better we get. Kids can be resilient and need to push through those trials instead of giving up.

Pre-K/Kindergarten April/May Lesson

The Power of Yet

Penny Positive is the character of the month.

In class, we talk about how the word "yet" can be powerful because it tells us that we will succeed. When we tell ourselves we can't do something it puts us in a fixed mindset that can be hard for students to break through. When we add the power of yet, anything is possible. Some students come up and say what they can't do and the class finishes the sentence with "YET". Classmates give advice to their peers on how to accomplish that task and the end we drew what we couldn't do...yet!
